Anyone in the Kansas City area able to look at a 100 for me? It's at a Toyota dealer near the airport.

I will provide frosty cold compensation! (or whatever seems fair)

PM if you can help!

I've talked them down from $22k already.
What's the T Belt and water pump going to run me installed?
Does yours have the Nav?

Oh, we've met before. I had the 85 4 runner at wheeltoberfest and broke a birfield first run out.

Pretty decent price for the miles and year.
I would see if i could talk them down due to the timing belt not being done and being one of the first things you would need to do, IMO.

How many miles are on yours? I read on your build blog that you reconditioned your leather because it was getting hard. What did you use and is it pretty soft now?

Just trying to talk myself into paying almost $20K after taxes for a vehicle with over 100k miles and can get expensive to fix.

Almost over the fence but need some nudging or pull me back.

I pulled the trigger after having the truck put up on the rack. The only and I mean only thing that looked slightly rusted was the mid exhaust muffler. All rails and brake lines were darn near new looking, fittings had minimal if any rust. I walked all around with a flashlight like checking everything. All shocks and the front boots , readiator looked dry and clean. Looking at all door jams, tailgate and under the hood all clean. The rear calipers and pads were serviced about 20k ago and the fronts will need to be serviced probably in 5-10k.

I have all Toyota service records and the previous owner took good care and it shows. So I spoke with them about the mileage and potential maintenance and we did the deal for $24k If there would have been any signs of rust, paint bubbles etc, I would have said no. Even the salesman said he was suprised they went so low. One time during the day I had my coat on and was ready to walk, That always make them nervous. I feel we both ended up OK on this. Time will tell.

What do you think about the one I'm looking at? It below a few listings. One of the last ones today.

.

In my area to have the dealer do a 90k including tb is $1700. My understanding is the nav is risky as the drive is seperate and fails and
Is about 400-500? to replace and if its down then your heat etc is down as its part of that system. Ie does not have seperate switches and is in the nav menus. So some see that as a negative

Buying over the internet

I found a 2001 LC that shows very clean, tons of pictures posted online, up to date on service, at what appears to be a reputable dealer about 700 miles away - it could very well be "the one". It's listed for $18k and has 115k miles.

Does anyone have any tips for buying a car sight unseen? I'm wondering about negotiating the price over the phone, if I will need to put a deposit down on it, and if I can back out of the deal if I find something I don't like about it? How about flights - did you buy a one-way ticket with the hope it would work out?

Price does seem a bit high compared to what I've seen posted here, but around Seattle, dealers are asking for the moon.

I think Rob B just did that... Rob?

You'll likey need to put down a deposit (like $500 at the most), make sure the pruchase agreement is contingent on your inspection and that it's fully refundable. I'd use a credit card just in case the dealer gets sideways on you.

Book a round trip flight, it may be worth booking one that can be cancelled if you buy the truck. Also, see if a local can take a look at it for you, drive it, take better pics and report back. I'm sure you could find someone in the area do do it for you for a frosty beverage or two.

They will start there but you should be able to get them to 16k , there is a dealer in brooking oregon that has a 01 with 102k and they started out at 17,900 and after email back and forth for a few days the drop dwad price went down to 15,900.. Seems like it was in 1k increments. The rig was a two owner from medford.

I just picked up my 01 with 130k for 12,700... It was a i expected, but i had relatives in denver to stay with if things didnt go right. Mine was a ebay deal with a seller that had 100% feedback like mine for many years and owned it since 2004 and it was garaged as well as having all the reciepts for everything done. The underneath was clean, very clean. I did notice the muffler was starting to look not so good, so he called a shop and got a price on the muffler and tail pipe and took it off the price, nice.

To answer your question, get them to send you a carfax, also ask them for a detailed condition of each panel, ie. scratches, dings etc. hows the windows, do all the body gaps look right, also each panel has the vin on it, so that could be checked but i doubt they will, id start slow and not ask for all of it at once, but the others are right make sure if your traveling you have a refundable deposit IF the vehicle is not as represented etc. i did 500 on my cc.

I plan on driving back to calif tomorrow morning, filled the tank , geez cheap gas like 2.79. So i should get an idea of mpg.

Enjoy

Thanks Bismark and RobB for the tips! Fingers crossed, going to start trying to work down the price and get them to send me more pictures. Trying not to get hopes up, when I lock in on one, it usually disappears.

Pulled the trigger on the 2003 100. My first 100. Got it for $18200. And the Toyota dealer is putting in a new t belt and water pump for $860 out the door. Should be good to go for awhile wouldn't you say???
It's got 109k and not a hint of rust anywhere. Oh what's a spare remote key going to run me? My other Toyota is a 85 4runner that has full ARB bumpers and OME suspension.

Three new batteries in four years?

I studied the service records for a 2001 LC that I'm interested in buying - it has had the battery replaced three times in the last four years: 1/25/12 at 113k miles, 9/21/10 at 99k miles, 12/12/07 at 70k miles. The CARFAX also showed that it had the battery replaced at just 8 miles.

If you saw something like this, would you walk away? Other than the battery issue, this truck has great service history. However, since it's for sale by dealer, I don't know the driving habits of the PO or how quickly it drains.

that is strange in my book. does it have any aftermarket electronics in it?

I did not know Jesus had a Land Cruiser?

.....yup

No aftermarket stuff - has factory nav. CARFAX also showed it was brought in at other times to have the "electrical system checked". I'm thinking I will walk away from this one, could become an annoyance.

Seems High to me.

You can get a 2004-2005 in the low 20's. 2006's start in the high 20's

when I was looking I didnt see much price difference between the 100 and LX470 in my area

As many of you guys have done, I am pondering the move to a hundy from a built 80...I just don't get as crazy as I used to and would like a little more comfort and luxury (and a V8;)) So my question for this thread is this:

Do you all think that it is possible to get into a decent locked 98-00 with less than 150K on the clock and a 2.5" with 285's for less than $10.5K?

I know service interval on timing chain is 90K so that would be a requirement as well...
