Found a 04 LC with just 67K. It has new tires has been well taken care of, the dealer just went through it end to end. As best as I can tell from the carfax the mileage seems accurate.
It rides like new..
They're asking $26,500 and offering me $5K for our old 1998 with 233,000..
Looking at Kelly Blue Book, it seems like a ok deal..
What do you guys think?

Thanks

I think you are leaving close to three grand on the table...depending on condition of the 98. The 04 would be a good step-up, though.

I'm with Garth. Sell the 98 yourself. $8k should be no problemo. IMO, the $26,500 is on the high side as well. I'd think $22-23k from a dealer would be appropriate. Don't get hung up on the 67k miles, low miles isn't a big deal with these rigs... unless you're a dealer. So really the combo deal is about $6-7k over what a 'good' deal would look like.

Another point of reference: 2003 Toyota Land Cruiser 4-Door SUV The 03/04 are very similar and this one is $5500 less.

Been lurking for over a year now, decided to start the search in earnest, and have come up with a couple of options.
I live in Charlottesville, VA right now, so there are a decent number of listings on AutoTrader between here and the DC area. My main concern with a truck from Virginia is the rust problem and salt exposure.
I am from Atlanta and moving back next summer, so I do have the option of waiting to find something down there. Problem is I want to buy a truck now and enjoy the last few months I have exploring this beautiful state...
So, any words of wisdom? Prices also seem much lower here than they are in Atlanta - probably due to supply and salt - and the first truck listed below pretty much matches everything I want:

2000-2002, Roughly 100K miles, Good Condition, $15K asking price

Cars for Sale: 2001 Toyota Land Cruiser 4x4 in Manassas Park, VA 20111: Sport Utility Details - 309191000 - AutoTrader.com

Next truck is also well priced, but I am definitely looking for dark blue, green, or burgundy...

Cars for Sale: 2001 Toyota Land Cruiser 4x4 in Fairfax, VA 22030: Sport Utility Details - 303065788 - AutoTrader.com

Thanks in advance for your help! Have really enjoyed reading this site, and look forward to joining the community soon.

PS: Any concerns with independent dealerships like these? I do...

Best,

GD

Dude, RUN from both of these dealerships.
I dealt with both while I was hunting for my 100 series. In each case the trucks looked pretty good online, but with one truck the sunroof, rear A/C, and power door locks didn't work and with another the truck sputtered on startup but I had to turn it off because it shook so much that I was afraid it would explode (and the dealer would say "you break it you buy it"). The guys in at Maximum Deals were so dodgy I had to take a shower afterwards. There are *tons* of good used 100s in the DC/NOVA area. I got a 2004 under 70k miles and zero rust from a private seller in VA.

Buy it now, these rigs low mileage and great condition are hard to find. You did not say anything about rust or where this vehicle was driven ie. California, Arizonia, etc. or was it rust belt.

Looks like I'm just going to pay too much.. Oh well. It was the only one we could find around here (within 200 miles.) that didn't have 150,000 miles one it..
With 233,000 on the 98, I wasn't sure it would be worth much. I wouldn't pay 9K for it..
We keep em for a long time.
I kind of thought we were paying too much..

Thanks for feedback though.

What to look for in a 100

So guys, I'm in the process of purchasing a100, what should I look for and be aware of?? Thank you

Slee does a pretty good job describing this on their website. Other than that, just the basics: look for rust, check it out in the daytime, run a carfax, etc.

If it is a solid one you did not pay to much. Plus 2004 is the best year for a 100 series. Enjoy

We went ahead and pulled the trigger over the weekend.. The 2006 really seems like it is brand new. Of course the 98 had a lot of miles, so it's not a fair comparison. Plus new tires on the 04 etc.. We hadn't even changed out the shocks and struts on the 98 (originals w 233,000 )

Just curious, why do you say 04 was a good year fornthe 100s? I didn't notice from your sig line, do you have a 04? Ha, that'd be my guess..

Thanks, I know we may have left a lot on the table, but I think we were looking at a lot of $$$ in getting the 98 up to speed.

If anyone's interested in our 98 it's at the Toyota dealer in Cape Girardeau Mo, it has 233,000, it's the dark brown color, still looks great on the outside. Inside is decent. Engine and tranny still seem solid. Has the locking diff. needs tires, not so much from tread wear left, but from age..

Thanks,
Jeff

Need help on a possible purchase. 04 with 95k from PA. It had an impact to the back but not sure of severity. Carfax doesnt go in to detail. All around looks to be in great shape.

What help do you need? Someone to check it out? Advice on price?

Rule #1 check it out in person (I'm assuming you're in TN and it's in PA). If you're concerned about the collision repair, take it to a frame shop and make sure there's no frame damage and throw a paint depth gauge on to check for putty on the rear parts. If both pass and the rear gate swings correctly then you're probably fine. If the 90k maintenance isn't complete then you'll want to negotiate down $1,500 or so. Since it's a PA truck, make sure to check underside for excessive rust.

Just form the gut, I would expect a dealer to ask $26k for something like this and would expect a reasonable deal to be in the $22k range.

Thanks for the quick response. It's actually in KY for $22,5. They are willing to bring it down to TN on way to auction. I'll check the aforementioned, especially the underside. Do you think I have wiggle room if 90k hasn't been done?

The 90k is a $1,200-$1,500 job so yes that's a real cost you can negotiate down. If not, you'll have to build that back into your net price to determine if the deal is worth it. It's also only about a $450 DIY if you're inclined and have tools.

Definitely check for rust. Especially on the rear cross member and the crossmembers that the rear coils attach to. I bought a truck from the PA region earlier this year and have been going through the painstaking process of scraping off undercoating and surface rust to rust proof it. It's a huge pain in the ass. Also if you try to unbolt anything on the underside get ready for broken bolts.

I am going to look at a 2005 with 134k. They are asking just under $24k. From the pictures, it has some grocery basket dings and the leather looks to have some wear. It has an ugly overhead DVD (once on, those can't really be removed can they?). It is at a dealership that also sells/services Lexus. I don't see the TB sticker and will negotiate that if I go forward.

What do you think about the list price and what should I offer if it looks good enough?
