Purely a non-scientific observation ;)...but it seems like 100-Series resale values (actually sold) have risen a little over the past 1 to 1-1/2 years.

I would have said the opposite based upon the people I've known/seen who've bought one. It does seem like the advertised prices have gone up, but I think that phenomena is linked to the overall escalation in used car prices this year with the soft economy and a lack of supply in the used car market.

what do you think?

Came across a 1999 with 98/K at a dealership.
No record of timing belt but does have records of oil changes.
It needs a few things along with the timing belt, I have called and got prices on the parts and they add up to around $1,500.00 with the timing belt being replaced.

They will not go lower than $13,500 so by the time I'm done with the maintenance I'm up to $ 15,00.00
Seems a little high but the miles are low.

How about a couple different ways to look at this?

Just do it
Keep looking
Buy it and just do the timing belt

Thanks
Ken

Ken, if it has the RR locker option, is exceptionally clean, the color you want, etc etc (ie, all stars are aligned) i would say just do it. Also if you have been looking for a long time, or if you need the vehicle now, or if you plan to drive it for 200k more miles. This way you would also have absolute confidence of the timing belt status.

Another way to think about if, how much more time will you spend trying to find another "9 out of 10", and when you find it how much $ will you save? Time is money, so you better save a couple grand in my book if you are going to spend another 40 hours or 4 months finding the One.

BTW if they will not budge, then I would also not let them have the contract to perform the TB work. Screw them. Or you can let them have the TB work if they will work with you a tiny bit on the price? Good luck!

I sold my 2004 LX470 with 60K miles a year and 1/2 ago to CarMax for $28K it was perfect and had a perfect carfax plus no rust even on the bottom. I think $26K is a great deal. You can take the Vin to your local Lexus dealer and no matter what Lexus dealership in the country it was serviced at they can print you all its services. The 2004 was the last year that the oldtimers in Japan built the 100 series, they are the best year to own.

I am looking at a couple of LC/LX's in my area. I found several 2004's that are similar to your deal.

1. 2004 LX470 - asking 25k - two owner - private sale - 97k miles, has a new timing belt so I think the 90k service is done

2. 2004 LX470 - asking 26.5k - one owner - private sale - 74k miles, has navigation :frown:

I also found 3 2004 LC's and a 2004 LX470 all with 83k-93k miles and all in the 25k to 26k asking prices.

I know there is a thread that calls out the differences between the LC and LX and understand the air suspension and HID's and some interior changes. Why is it the LC's are the same price in the area as the LX's? And if you guys could pick a 2004 LC or LX for 25k and it has 80-90k miles which would you chose and why?

have a friend who is Looking at one 2002 LX with 118k all southern truck , asking 18.5 . It is very clean.

Do we think this is a good deal ?

It depends on what you want. 2003+ carries a premium price. 98-99 and even 00-02's are at attractive prices. I bought my 99 rear locker with 146K miles at $10K. I haven't seen or heard of someone buying a 100 series below 10 grand. There's a local 100 series close to 250K miles asking $11K lol.

Hey guys.. I just bought a 2000 LX 470 with 136,500 miles for $11,000

The 4 wheel drive was frozen, so had to fix that, change 2 oxygen sensors, changed all 4 control arms (i think thats how they are called. They're $25 each), sprayed the entire bottom with the rust free undercoating, changed the antenna and removed side steps... All this cost me 1700

timing belt done already, paint is very decent, i'm the 4th owner, inside decent, had 4 brand new factory tires, and the last thing i can think off was that the muffler had a leak so i took it out and just connected with a pipe which cost me $60

So basically $12,760

Good?!

You couldn't engage to LOW. Apparently none of the previous owners ever used it so with time, rust, dirt.. it gets stuck. The mechanic had to pull down the transmission in order to fixed that

In your neck of the woods, that's about $3-4k too high IMO. If your 1) is without NAV buy it! It's as rare as hens teeth. I only ask because you mentioned it in 2) as if it was unique to have Nav.

FWIW, IMO kbb is the 'dealer's friend'. I've always found it to be high. I use a combo of edmunds and nada. OTOH, if I'm selling I typically find comps in my local market and price just below them and then don't move on the price. It's been a winning strategy for all of the car's I've ever sold. Granted, LC's are hard to find local comps.
Banks use the NADA clean trade in value to determine how much they will loan on a car, so the true market value is usually close to this.

Seems like the 2004's both LX and LC's around 75-110k miles are all going for $24-27k and the '00's are 115-150k miles are $12-14k.

I went looking about a couple LX's today in the $25k range and they all seem well kept, the '00's I saw were pretty worn out.

Having a tough time making a decision to go a little order or get the 04's. Any thoughts on the difference?

I regularly fly to Phoenix and Dallas, any benefit to buying a LC/LX in those areas and shipping it home?

You should buy a 98-99 and throw the 10K in wheeling mods and new leather. :grinpimp:

Yes! Rust free and the Phoenix area is a relatively inexpensive market.

1999 LC

I am a long time forum reader but 1st time poster. I have found a 99 LC with 199,000 miles. with the locking diff. TB said to have been changed @ 128k not sure on other service records but I am going to look at it tomorrow. Looks very clean. The owner is asking $7500. I am worried because this seems low in my opinion. What do you guys think? Thanks

May be the deal of the year. But remember, "if it sounds to good to be true it usually is". It could be he just wants it gone. Use Slee's guide to look it over. Anyway, it's worth almost that for the parts. I need some of the dash buttons.
