I use all of the books to get a feel for prices before a purchase or sale, but why does it matter in this case? If you want to use a quote as an argument, use the lowest one. NADA, KBB, Edmunds are all widely used. Needless to say, the truck is worth to you only and exactly what you and him can agree on. You're only $1400 apart so seems like the book is largely irrelevant. Plus if the guy is a dealer he has a better idea of what that thing is truly worth to him than you do. In the grand scheme of things, as in owning that truck 20 years, seems like $1400 or hopefully less is a drop in the bucket, if it's cherry, no?

I agree. So, do you think $25,000 would be a good buy on a gold 2003 LC with only 46k miles on it (the dealer is touting the low mileage as "worth the extra cost")?

$25k is an "ok" deal. I paid $24k for my 2004 with 107k miles. Granted mine is a one-owner PNW rig which come with their own premium (upside is the underneath still looks brand new).

Really on a LC I don't think the miles really mean much, these things are so well built and last for so many miles anyways. Find one that is in good condition and you like and just buy it!

You guys are forgetting two very considerable facts. One, you have no maintinance logs. Landcruisers are expensive to fix and the Rich house wives that drive them 5 K per year tend to get a new one instead of fixing it. So you may be looking at it saying Oh it only 1500 or so, then you buy it and immeidatley have to replace 5K worth of stuff. This is not a honda. Even discounted parts are not cheap, and the list of stuff that can and will break on this forum is extensive. You need to have someone look up the price for that vehicle on Manheim or whatever local Auction site you have. come up from the wholesale price that he will get if he can't sell it and has to take the thing to auction. If it truly is a cherry, they yes, you can pay a premium, but it doesn't sound like you are educated enough to know what a cherry is. No disrespect intended. Also, for 150.00 take it to a Lexus dealer and have them check the whole thing out. You want to find everything before you buy it and use it to negotiate. last Two Landcrusiers I looked at, I thought were priced well, and in Good shape. Dealer let me take it for a few hours, I showed up at lexus, had them give me a 4 page review for 150.00 and passed on both Vehicles becuase of it. By the time I added up the new tires, fluids, and repair for the carcked manifold, the dealer wasn't willing to deal. When I showed the sales manager the sheets from Lexus he turned around and walked away.
Find a good LC, get it inspected and begin Netotiating up from real wholesale. If you don't have a buddy with access to the local auctions, use good condition or less wholesale trade in on edmunds. But $1,500 may not sound like much unitl you are on the other side of the sale and the dealer says you broke it two weeks after you bought it, and now you are spending more.

he said a Tech looked it over already. (Hopefully, one not associated with the Seller, of course...)

justimaginejack makes some great points. From the tech inspection, there are no immediate needs, and it has a brand new set of Michelins. However, I tend to agree that Edmunds average trade-in is the place to begin especially considering this 2003 LC was traded in by a older doc by his wife on a brand new Mercedes. I am SURE the dealer did not give her much if any more than average trade-in. So, I think it is worth about $22.5 or $23k, not $24k or even $25k.

Looking at a 99LC

So I have been looking for a LC for a while, I finally found one that I think I might get, but wanted to know ya'lls opinion. Ok so it is a Bronze 99 with 118k miles, the engine was clean, little to no rust under the body, and drove like a dream. Ya'll all know the good with the trucks so i'll skip the talk about how great it drove, here is the bad... First it is a 4 owner vehicle, second the passanger window button did not roll the window down but the driver side did (more of a pita for the :princess:). The side step rail was broken (plan to take them off anyways). The front seat leather was in pretty bad shape, so that would need to be replaced at some point. The 4 wheels that the driver had on does not match the orginal spare, tread or wheel. 1 of the keys were cracked and they suggest that i just keep that as a spare (:princess: didn't like that since she wouldn't have a key) The passanger side of the third row was missing and that also made the :princess: unhappy since she wants me to have the ability to have the third row. and did i mention i hated the wheels.... Ok other then those issues they will sell it to me out the door for 15988, what do you guys think

Way too expensive. Does it even have a rear locker?

Has the timing belt been replaced yet?

The wheels are pretty ugly compared to the stockers, but that's just my opinion...

I just paid 9,100 for a 98 with 135k

Edit: Looks like you hate the wheels too :D you've got good taste.

I'd keep looking...

I guess i should have mentioned that it does have the rear locker and has the towing package, I was thinking a little too much, the price they told me included a new set of original wheels and BFG A/Ts... plus get to keep those wheels that are on it now.. YES! (sarcasm) the 90k service was done at 100k, i have the service records and the car fax is clean.

They should throw in all of that, and it still should not be anymore than $11k, IMO.

9-11k, IMHO. Definitely not anywhere even close to $16k, they are waiting for a sucker.

for your info, i sold my 01 lx470 with navigation and all options 119k, 90k service done for 16k

Just for reference, I bought a 1 owner '99 with 72,000 miles, rear locker, rear air, new tires and a short warranty in perfect cosmetic shape 18 months ago for $16,500 out the door from a Lexus dealer and at the time thought I paid too much.

Need some advice

1999 LC - Grey on Grey - Rear Locker - 133K - Tbelt and Water pump just replaced - recent receipt for $1200 worth of work. Clean overall.

Right now have dealer at $14K out the door. I am concerned with it being a NE truck - and asked them to send me a video on a lift.

What do you guys think? The corrosion concerns me.

Hard to tell, but it doesn't look bad for the Northeast.

What's the mileage? That price is awfully high... I bought my pristine, 1-owner, never-left-Denver '01 w/ 90k on it for less than that two years ago.

133K

And I agree on the price being a bit high. It is at a dealer and they have just done the T-Belt and Water Pump.

I will probably keep looking.

Ohh.. sorry.

The window price in the video is high at $17K.

I have em down to $14K right now. Rear locker - pretty clean otherwise.

How does that stack up?
