I've noticed they are moving really slow here in Idaho which is not real typical as they are fairly sought after and we have a limited supply. I've seen some deals lately that have me kicking myself for all the money I have wrapped up in mine. I bet mine is worth 50% of what I've put into it in the last 2.75 years. I bought when the market was still fairly high. I never plan on making money off a Cruiser Wagon but I've always enjoyed the fact that I could drive them fairly cheaply. With our 100 that is no longer the case. This one per mile, per month, per year would be very expensive if I sold it now. Fortunately I have no intention of selling it.

Oil is on its way up, so the market is going to get worse again before it gets better. That being said, the market for LC's seems better now than it was when gas was $4/gallon... at least based on the deals I've seen lately. The crazy good deals I've seen recently are 40's, 60's and some 80's that aren't the daily drivers of people who are unemployed and need to unload the toy to try and make ends meet.

I bought my 100 about three weeks ago. I think I got lucky w/ it, it has 124k miles and already has an OME lift, with new 285/75/16 BFG AT tires and the timing belt and water pump were changed out at 119k miles. Picked it up for 14.5k, plus tax, etc. Pretty clean in and out, with normal wear and tear.

I originally wanted an 80 series, but thought this fit my future plans a bit better (wife wants the babies...I want snowmobiles).

I planned on the exact lift and tires for anything I bought, so I thought this was a decent deal.

Gas mileage is something to get used to, but I can't wait to drive to Moab in comfort!

So far I have installed sliders, found a slee rear bumper w/ tire carrier on c-list (currently being blasted and powdercoated), and have an appt. in 3 weeks to have slee install a rear locker (too expensive to slide both under the financial radar).

Just bought a bone stock 2000 with 33k on it for 20k. I know I paid a premium for the low mileage, but I can't help myself when it comes to low low mileage older vehicles. What do you think?

Just a heads up to ATL shoppers

I checked out a 2001 470 yesterday located at Atlanta Auto Lease in Alpharetta. The description of this LX sounds really nice, but the car is pretty bad and I just wanted to pass this along in case you were thinking of checking it out to buy.

The car has been in a front end collision and the sales guy tried to downplay the damage- the accident may not have been bad, but the repairs were very poor. The car is priced at the high end of a good condition 2001 and this is not in good condition.

Just a heads up...

Chris

Another noob, another LC wannabee

Hi folks,

I have been lurking here for a few months as I slowly figure out what new (used) vehicle I need in my life. I've been driving my '98 Tacoma (stick V6 ltd) for about 9 years now, and am only going to give it up because I need more room for children. But I still need something with great ground clearance and great ability in mud, snow, and on iffy roads.

Today I finally drove a LC, a 2006 with 88K miles. I was surprised by a couple things, one, it has Pirelli Scorpions for tires (this would not be my choice), the fluid for the suspension (adjustable) was below the minimum line, and it doesn't have a hitch. It also has a fair number of gouges in the plastic in the cargo area.

The price is listed as $28K. I'm feeling kind of neutral about it. Any one have any feedback?

Looking at a '99:

It was originally in the family since new, sold to a friend, but now i may buy it back. Has some Northeast rust issues underneath (body is clean with a few dings) - he's currently replacing the front shock mounts that have rusted out...

130k, aftermarket stereo, cool JDM billet grille...otherwise stock with Rear Diff Lock, leather, rear air...

Any ideas on price?

The only "upgrade" I'd price in are the sliders... tires are a normal wear and tear item and I wouldn't place much value on the in-dash over and above the factory unit (especially if the original unit died). Nor would I be too concerned about the broken light and dented fender as long as it is nothing more than he describes. It does sound like he's maintained it reasonably well.

The thing that would be a non-starter for me at that price would be the condition of the paint. Not a big deal maybe if you're buying it as a weekend trail rig, but if you're going to build it, then you'll most likely need to spend a couple thousand replacing the AHC suspension.

Shop around, see how it compares.

that paint is terrible. looks like it was hit...

About to purchase...

Hi All,

New to the forums. Am looking at a 2000 Land Cruiser with 150,000 miles for $13,500. How does the price for this mileage sound? It is in excellent condition and everything appears to work. Drove it today and drives very well. Should I be concerned about the mileage? Any gotchas I should pay attention to?

Thanks in advance.

Miles on LX-470 vs value?

CONDITION is far more important than miles indicated.

I have customers with nearly 400K miles on their LX-470's that look, feel, perform as new. There are maintenance/replacements required to keep them like that, but those are VERY reasonable. Things like belts, hoses, fluids(all lubes and coolants and brake fluid), filters, tires, brakes, wheel bearings, misc rubber joints, CV boots, paint nicks, rust-proofing, etc.

The vehicles are extremely robust and durable in all respects--driven on street and modest 'dirt/sand' off-roading. they ARE NOT a heavy duty off-road vehicle like a Jeep or? as the are heavy and not built for 'rock crawling'

If the vehicle runs, performs, looks good-inside, outside, under, inside engine, inside radiator, it probably is a good bet for long life. If it is dirty, bent up, rusty, dirty under hood and inside engine, radiator full of bug carcasses, expect expensive things to be used up a lot more. If the owner/driver 'used it hard' it is well used and you should pass. If it was lightly used--it is hardly worn at all.

I paid $16,000 for 2000 four years ago with 107k on it.
