Guys, looking at a 99 LX470 at a local dealership here in Surrey. It has 180,000 kms (111,000 miles) with rear diff locker. Its grey with tan leather interior, new brakes, new shocks, all new fluids and belts. I've haggled them down to $14,500 including all taxes and a 1 year warrantee... think it's worth it if it's passes a pre purchase inspection???

Dont forget we pay a lot more on the west coast and especially in Canada.

That is a good price. Give it a test drive.

Pre-purchase 2000 LC, need advice

Hello,

I'm visiting from the 80 Series board. My wife and I took a look at a 2000 LC at a large dealer lot today. The rig has 141k on it, but overall condition rivals a brand new LC. Leather looks impecable, no dings or dents, seems almost flawless as it also drives really well. Apparently, the PO did all maintenance at dealer and recently traded this in along with his Cayanne for a new 470. I have asked for the service records since this is a Lexus dealer and he always took it to Toyo for service. The salesperson also agreed to call the PO to see if he would agree to talk with me about the car.

Now I know a pretty good deal about the good and bad about the 80's and I've read through the FAQ for 100's, but can you guys give me any additional heads up as to what to really look for on this LC? It has a the timing belt sticker having been done at 86k, but that was a while ago. I'm planning to check the radiator, brakes, tranny and oil, but what specifically should I inspect prior to making an offer?

Thanks,

Chris

Here is a good summary:

Also, you won't need to do the timing belt until 180k or so. You can also register on Toyota Owners online and check to see what services have been done. Since the PO did all the work at the dealership, they should all show up. Just gotta have the VIN.

What are they asking for it?

$14,999, but we were going to start with $12k. $15k is a little high and there is some drama about the third row, which is now MIA.

*I went online, but it only showed records from the last 18 months. I called the dealership and they have records back to 2001, but they can't provide them to me due to privacy laws.

Thats BS the car belongs to the dealer and so does the service records. They must not be complete or they show poor maintance. Quit dealing with whoever told you this and go to the next level and ask them if they are really serious about selling the vehicle.

The financial transactions for the services were made by the previous owner, I can understand not wanting my previous service records/financial transactions available to the public. Maybe they could contact the customer to get permission?

I've gotten the service printout on several Lexus and MB's that I've bought used from the dealer service department. It shows the service information but no financial or previous owner information. The dealer does not want to provide because the info is not good or is incomplete and does not back up the BS they have been telling. No other reason not to give it to the potential buyer to help close the sale.

I agree with SWUtah-- None of those print outs show the cost or even the name of the owner. They're just merely a list of service items that show what was done and when. Very generic. I can't see how it violates any privacy laws to warrant permission from the previous owner.

Hi All,I am looking at getting a 100 for the new family truck. We have outgrown Our 2000 4runner.

Here are a couple-opinions?
Mint 2001 w/72k for $23,900 high I know but it looks nice in the pics.Just on CL today,so I not yet kicked a tire yet. It's a local non-Toyota dealer.

Then the 2000 w/79k for $19,971 at a BMW dealer.I have not looked at this one yet.Seems like this one is high priced also.

We are going to look at the trucks soon and find some ways/things to talk them down. Most of the lower mi.LC's are more spendy here in CA.

Both of those are extremely high, even with the lower mileage.

Why does every 100 you look at on the east coast seem to originate from New Jersey? New Jersey must be the Land Cruiser capital of the USA. How much rust do you think an 2006 with 67,000 miles might have underneath? It's been up there it's entire life. The outside looks great in pictures.

Yea they do seem high priced, but it seems to be the going rate around here.I will keep looking, thanks.

I saw pictures recently of a LC with only 50k miles on it and the thing was completely rusted out underneath. It doesn't take long in the right environment.

I looked for well over a year for an 03-04 reasonably priced somewhere near NC before finally getting an assist from Spressomon on a rig out in Reno. It cost me $1k to ship it to NC, but I was tired of seeing the same thing- plenty of rigs from the DC to NY corridor that were unknowns without some help in a rust inspection. I'm sure they exist, but I'd rather pay the $1k transport premium and a holiday gift to a friendly mud member! Six years ago as a newbie I lucked out and bought a 99 Alabama rig that still has zero rust today.

At the very least, dealers need to market the rust free rigs with good pix. I'm guessing the average buyer is just ignorant or doesn't care.

Bought my 2000 with 84k. Lived its whole life in PA. Not a speck of rust. I think it depends upon how they are kept.

I clean the heck out of mine and still see some surface rust on my 2006 LC100 and 2009 LC200. What is considered excessive? Most of mine is localized around the rear axle and clean everywhere else. I'm getting ready to list my 2006 with 36,000 miles and want to understand if this will be an issue. Pics from my 2006:
