Well...

I am very close to pulling the trigger on a 2004 TLC with under 30k miles for $30,000. Decent deal for my future daily driver?

just because the miles are low it doesn't justify that price. I would think in the $25k range would be high but reasonable for a one-of-a-kind pristine example. $30k? no way!

I just did a quick crazedlist search and found an 04 with 97k miles at a dealer asking $24.8k. I bet you could get that one for $22k with the current fuel prices. Also found an 06 with 64k for $33.9k. Again, I bet you could get that for $31k and you get the 275 hp VVTi. A 2005 with 89k for $29k. A 2005 with 72k for $29.9k. And those were just the top 5 listings that showed on a Land Cruiser search and all were dealer asking prices.

oh and here's a great one: a 2003 by owner with 91k on the clock for $19,995! that right there should give you huge bargaining power! 2003 TOYOTA LAND CRUISER I'm actually really tempted on that one!

I'm not trying to burst your bubble or make it sound like it's way easy to find the perfect LC for a sweet price. Quite the contrary. I've posted here many times that if you find a good rig for a reasonable prices then buy it. If you use MUD as your reference you'll always find someone claiming to get a better deal on a better truck. However... I do believe that $30k is too much for that vehicle. They're trying to capitalize on the low miles. If it's that important to you then maybe it is worth that price to you. But these rigs go 300k and an extra 30k on the clock would be nothing to me to save $5k in price. Either way I wish you the best in your purchase and urge you to pay cash if at all possible.

Personally I think 30k is a great deal for an 04 with only 30k miles. The numbers OregonLC shows above (assuming face value) bolster that point when you see:
04 97k for $25k
06 64k for $34k
05 89k for $29k
05 72k for $29k

Later models and lower miles both bring up the price automatically. Whether it's worth it to you or not is the question. To me, (again in my personal opinion), the tough question would be should I go for older vehicles with higher miles for a lot less money or should I go with newer vehicles with lower miles for more money. You need to identify your criteria and your dollar thresholds and determine what combination of factors is worth the extra money to you (newer vehicle, better condition, lower miles).

So, I wouldn't say that $30k for 30k miles is too high at all! But to OregonLC's point, how much are the low miles worth to you? If it were me, $5k more for 60k miles less is totally worth the extra 5k to me. Also, how many miles do you put on a year, are you planning to keep it for the long haul, are you planning to service it yourself, etc? If you're planning to keep it for the long haul and put lots of miles/year it might be worth looking the higher miles route. Also make sure you're familiar with the year to year differences in models - for example bluetooth is only available on 'later' years (can't remember if it's 03 or 04), VSC is only on certain years, lockers are only available on earlier years, VGRS (variable gear ratio steering) are only available on later years, sound system varies b/w early/later years, no nav on much earlier years etc. So depending on what you do/don't want, the years should also play a role in your selection. Personally I wanted bluetooth and VGRS and VSC so that narrowed down my choices.

When I bought mine a year ago, it was all about finding the latest model with the lowest miles for under $30k. And for me, the miles threshold was less than 90k b/c I wanted to make sure I baselined the vehicle myself by the 90k service point.

My $.02.

Good luck!

price opinion needed - 1999 LC

I'm looking to buy my first Land Cruiser for moderate offroading. I have access to a private seller with a clean 1999 LC. 135k miles. Rear Lock. Its stock, but has brand new Yokohama Geolanders, size 275. Needs new TB and brakes. I think I can talk him down to ~$10,800.

This seems like a good deal to me, but I would love to hear some other opinions. I'm planning on running it over to Slee immediately for a 2.5" OME and a few other things (sliders, bumpers, winch).

Also, what is the minimum winch I should put on there. The Warn M8000 is cheap, or should I look for something bigger.

Thanks in advance,
Josh

Advice on '99 LC

Need price / problem advice on a '99 LC, 98k miles, 1 owner (65 years old). Price is right at $12,000.

Any issues on the '99 specifically i need to check on? No AHC obviosuly, which i'm happy with.

Any other gotchas on that year model?

major service? If not, and if you are like me, you'll have to have a shop do it. Count on paying $2k +/-

I bought my 99 LC a few months ago with 112k miles on. Major service was performed at 111k and before I purchased her. I paid $11.5k.

Hope that helps.

That helps. I'm waiting on the service records to come via email now. The owner of the Toyota dealership (also owns the Honda dealership this one is at) drove it, so i'm thinking it was regularly serviced. We'll see though.

Any other advice on the '99 year model?

No VSC/ATRAC/EBD either. Front dif was 2 pinion vs 4 pinion on '00+.

New Here, Looking to buy a 100 Series?

Hey guys, Im new here and looking to buy a 100 series cruiser. currently I drive an FJ Cruiser all loaded up with ARB front bumper, Sway Away coil overs, OME rear shocks and on and on. I spoke to Mark at Metal Tech today and he suggested I get involved over here before I buy so here I am.

I like the 2000 model mainly because I can rip out the stock stereo system and put something that that I dont need to pay Toyota $200 to update nav wise when needed. My truck is my office so comfort is a must. My 2007 FJ currently has 128,000 miles on it. The other thing is that I dont know the difference between the 200 and 2004 and have yet to see a 2001 or 2002 to know if there is any difference? One big thing I notice is that the price drops quite a bit from 2004 to 2000 without a huge difference in milage.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions on what to look for in a 100 series.

Lots of changes happened for the 2003-2007 models. The entire entire console was redesigned. If you like the aftermarket radios, you'll stay away from 2003-2007 as all the radio and climate controls are integrated into configurations that you prevent an aftermarket radio.

Read the Cruiser FAQ for all the year differences. Welcome!

Thanks for the response, ill check out the FAQ section. I did find that VAIS has an ipod integration unit so that opens up the possibilities.

I've got the VAIS in my GS. It's ok. Works just fine but it's not flashy and it's an older model that's limited with displaying playlists/albums/artists etc.

Thanks for the suggestion on the 2001. I have been reading the from the Slee website and its pretty comprehensive.

Im looking at a 2000 LC with 94k on it, its clean and the 90k service has been done. I should have the service records tomorrow. The guy wants $16,9 for it, personally I think its about $1500 to high, thoughts? My other concern is that this truck is from up North and has seen salty roads, how concerned should I be?

If it's a rustbelt car then you really need to soul-search to figure out if you want to put up with working on it.

If it were a dry climate vehicle with good records and 90k then I'd say in the neighborhood of $16k was about right. I'd pay in the mid 16's if it was a peach. closer to $15k would be a great deal. Really, it depends upon geography and the vehicle. You're close.

If the records come back clean then I will pay someone to do an independent inspection to see what the rust factor is.

Service records came back clean, I made an offer and should know if I am getting the LC next week.....fingers crossed!

Looking at a few LC/LX's here in Virginia and trying to gauge opinions.

A local toyota dealer has one with 143k on it for 13500. I'm going to have to grill them to see whether the timing belt has been done and other service. I was thinking a more normal price for this would be around 11k.

A private sale 00 LX470 is going for 13800 with 130k on the clock. Again I'm unsure of maintenance at this point in time.

There is one other LX, an 01, with 123k on the clock asking 17.5k private sale. Seems to be in good shape, but I don't think it warrants that much of a premium. I believe it is the original owner.

I'm going to try to take a look at a few of these today and one or two 80s to compare. Assuming I need to having timing belt, water pump, etc how much more should I budget for that and try to knock off price? I was thinking maybe the toyota dealer one might be a fair price if I had them do the service first.

93 80

I am playing with the idea of selling my 04 Tundra DC 4x4 and purchasing a slightly modded 93 LC. It is 3x Locked, 2.5 OME HD front, OME Mediumd rear, ARB front bumper, sliders and rear tube bumper w/tire carrier. 164K miles and just got baselined. $9,250.

What says the hive?
