How long have you been looking for a FJ40 ? My best suggestion is to slow your search down and do a bunch of reading within this site. Good vehicles show up with enough frequency that you shouldn't think this is the one, the only one out there.
Also what's your plans and budget for the vehicle once bought ? ed
Good point. Another thing to think about (imho) is what is drawing you to this “hobby” if that is the right way to describe it. For me, I like the journey... finding what I want, fixing it, finding the needed parts to restore, puttering with it a night after work, etc. Once it’s all put together I start to lose interest. For others it is very different. They want something already put together they can drive on weekends and don’t want to be bothered with fixing anything or running down hard to find parts to make repairs.

Oooh...the elusive FJ40 Pine Edition!!! check for termites as well. 🤣

The rust, run away. Way too much for that rig. Then when you add in the weird previous owner wood mods, turn signals, door panels, patched roof and who knows what else. The Robertson Screws and router'd dash and floor console, nice touch :)

Plenty of others around, keep looking.

‘77 was a desireable year, but I say keep looking.

Search southwest/west states. Shipping, even all the way across the country, is sooooooo cheap considering having one minor rust repair would cost you more.

That is a fact, shipping costs can be insignificant compared to major repairs.
