So I have been pondering a new, dare I say it, "project" and one piece of the puzzle is going to be an H42 to split case toybox. Rumor is Marlin isn't making any more of these little jewels so I'd appreciate you guys keeping an eye out for one.

@beno you are probably the best plugged into the cruiser world that I know personally, if you hear anything I'd appreciate a heads up.

Thanks,

Thanks,

I've got a non-spacer 4 speed w/ shifter and split case that's completely apart and will need a rebuild kit. Let me know if your interested. Duh just reread your post your looking for a "Toybox".

Marlin still has them listed on his website. BamaPaul put the setup you are talking about in his early 80, you might want to PM him about where he got it. I think it cost him over $1500 for the toybox though. That's the best thing you can do to an 80 to make it a crawler

I messaged bigMike and asked about them. I will see what he says, that is if he reaponds. I got a thread going in the Dixieland forum about going slow in da 80. Hagan said he heard MC isn't making the toyboxes anymore. I have read several threads that made comments about a certain part for them that they have to purchase in a lot of 100 and that they'd need 30 committed buyers to make a go of it. BamaPaul got his box used and had to replace a few bearings in it. He has given me some insight as well.

I figure a h42 and split case should get me a low range of 43:1. Stock 80 is 38.8:1. With Marlins gear you get 48.6:1. H42, and AA gears you get 75:1. With a 4.7 toybox and standard gears in the splitcase (which seems to be how most of them came out) I could get down to 202:1 with 5.29s in the axle. That seems like a fun place to be, and I think I may go ahead and start scrounging parts for a h42 manual swap and just keep an eye out for a toybox. And put all my peeps on the look-out as well.

If I were to ever score one and decide to drop the coin on an h55 I could get down to 275:1, or if I could land an sm420 to splitcase toybox I could get down to an insane.... wait for it.... 398:1 (1st gear is 7:1)

So if any of you guys happen across one, let me know.

Yeah I agree. But the one I'm gonna look at tomorrow may not be... :hillbilly:

Clearly we need more extra seats for folks to ride along. Plus for some reason I have gotten an itch to do something a little different. Crawler 80 sounds about right.

@FJCRAWLER hey Rocky, I think I know the answer to this, but did you already sell the Nittos? If not what size are they?

Nope , I'm waiting to make sure the IROK's are going to rock so far happy, happy, happy .

@BGarcia88FJ62 whats the difference in a non-spacer and spacer H42? I am looking for a H42/ split case combo and while I have read the ones with a spacer are later model, the internals are the same correct? Is the primary difference the overall length of the case? Added spacer to match the overall length of the H55 so the same cross-members could be used perhaps?

I still have the OEM FJ40 rollbar off my '74 taking up space.
Free to a good home.
