Theres a lot of weird PO hacks on that one. Obviously a repaint with misaligned panels which makes me wonder what's going on underneath.

Well its a 1979 and it looks like its all the bits...even the smog. Everything looks pretty legitimate
all over...it just depends on what is hiding under the paint. Particularly in the rear at the sill and the
quarter panels. You should expect some rust and work. If you think you can live with it and not
have to replace 1/4 of the tub in that area then might be a keeper. You really need pics of the drive
train and some detail of how its running...etc.

Would find out what how the rear sill was replaced and have the picture of the back without athe mat. Better pictures of the rear well.

This is my 79. Going to need some work but it's still original. Not it would be a deal killer for you but know it been repaired at some point and

Great points on last 2 posts, battery hold down is unique and wtf is the tire carrier latch type thing in pic 3.
Engine bay as stated by @wimberosa looks correct for the year including valve cover and air cleaner.

Wheel arch angles look strange to me, curious as to what the bed looks like under that mat.
Why use that weird tire carrier bumper, old rear reflectors and bumperettes with new paint , when all are available brand new?

What is the story with the truck?

surprisingly complete/original... things that jump out: aftermarket windshield washer reservoir, battery orientation is turned (plus hack hold down), oem landing pad for spare carrier is replaced with custom channel kinda thing

Agreed. Owner claims it's mechanically sound, tho admits to tranny/trade whine. Not sure what's going on with that. Drivetrain pics would be helpful, seems odd they aren't shown anywhere.

The whine could be nothing out of the ordinary for a 40 if they are not used to it.

Dash and interior look original from above pics, bonus points for what looks to be original floor matt and side pieces.

Body panel alignment look as good or better than many on Mud. If it were me and I was shopping in that price range (mine are both many years and prices old) I would think it’s worth going to see. As some have pointed out, crawl under and look around. Budget doing “some work” regardless. It looks all there and like someone has been driving it regularly. Way more confidence building than those polished up “restorations”.

Looking at the pics a 2nd time, and considering the quality of the po's repairs. The wheel openings, 1/4 panels, rear sill and the dent in the left frt fender questions what's really under the paint and what short cuts he did prior to the repaint. You need more pics b4 making a trip. I think there are better rigs available in the classified section. You need to be willing to travel.

Aside from the wood battery holder looks ok. if you really are interested have a thorough look at it again. get underneath and look behind the rear quarters and check for any signs of work done to it. the back side tells a lot. Same with the side panels under the doors.
from the pics it looks ok. Or get someone in the cruiser community in the area and have a look at it. don't hold back check it out. you found a nice one. good luck
