Did you clean and paint the inside of the rims too?? I scrub my wheels/tires inside and out when doing a rotation. The insides of my wheels look to be raw aluminum alloy, and are a beach to clean up with no coating to protect the metal. Even spraying with simple green and soaking, the insides take a lot of scrubbing with a stiff wheel brush.

Agree that removing the outside weights and going with inside stick-ons on squeeky clean rims would look better. Use HD duct tape (foil type) over the top of the stick-on weights to seal from moisture and they stay on pretty well.

The end result of your project looks really nice. Your contemplated powder coating will prolly hold up for a very long while.

i didnt bother with the back. the brake sits about 2" back. and to be honest, you cant tell the inside of the rim isnt done. I did about 3 inches with a wire brush and i noticed it would add on about an hour prep time and sanding just to do the inside. I just focused on the nessecary parts and did what I could. Next time around for tires. Its : powdercoat, wheel balancers moved inside. and 285/75/16 BFG A/T's

update on durability....

i tested the durability about an hour ago. It holds up great. for those of you that wanted to know how well they held up. It would give it a good review. paint did not chip.here is a shot of the truck out there (pre-mud)

and im still in the process of changing over to a flat black brushguard. gotta spray it too.

Nick, I really like that look. How about I drop my truck off for a couple days... I'll work on getting your dad to buy into a full buildup in return  :grinpimp:

Really... great job and writeup. Not sure my truck would deserve to look that good. Probably just lead to having to bang the dents out and such.

spraying mine tommorow. using 320 grit sandpaper, 2 coats primer and the same flat back i used on the wheels. im leaving the toyota badge on during prep/paint. I wonder if its going to be too thick in the corners of the symbol

loud did his center caps with spray paint i believe. correct me if im wrong blair

you're left rear tail light is out. I painted my caps with a matte black spraypaint...forget which. The wheels were actually powdercoated tho. I just took the T's off, sanded and sprayed with two coats of black...no primer. It's hubcaps...w/e

Ya i was planning on leaving my T's on aswell. Less hassle and think it might look sweeter too! Did my wheels yesterday using the paint remover stuff from kragen. Came out very nice and professional looking. Think this would work on the caps?? or just ruin them?

I got some stripper from kragen that sprayed on with a rattle can.... worked great! thanks for the find!

Luckily got some sunny weather today. Its been rainy these past few days. The caps came out better than i thought they would. Sanded them down with some 320 (likeyou suggested) primed and painted using same paint as i used on the wheels.

Post up some pics of the fianl product with hub caps. if you werent going to already.

Thanks! I like your flat black look, but didnt think it would look as good with my grey paint.

I actually did them a little faster than i would have liked. Wanted to get them done before i headed up to tahoe for the new year though. Got up at around 8 and had them done by around 130?? Left for the mountains at around 230ish. So pretty quick. The paint remover really helped speed up the process. Happy with how they turned out though.
