They've got it listed under the old name "Heart of Texas Offroad" and the link doesn't work ... so much for the TLCA site update :D

For the record, neither Heart of Texas or Liquid Offroad are TLCA Associate Members, nor do they advertise in Trails. This is meant only as clarification, not a comment on Liquid's pricing, service, etc.

Are you comparing against the "package price"?

I mean Christo offers a package with the bushings and Christo's special tool to press out the bushings. That tool is pretty useful and while when you look at, doesn't look like it's worth $60, it makes life a lot easier and faster when replacing bushings. You could spend a lot of time fiddling around on the press to remove the old bushings without it.

I suggest buying the package from Christo but whatever.

This is the clincher in Slee's deal, I DO think the bushing tool is worth $60... at least in frustration and time to install. (try and go get one machined for $60) That extra level of well thought out service is worth more than a few $$$

Buy it from who ever you like...if $66 is that important to you buy it from liquid...but don't call Slee and ask for advice when you have a question post sale. Make you bed and sleep in it.

Hopefully this won't get brought up over and over....oh wait it has....at least he isn't asking here to see if Slee will price match.).

Ditto Ditto Ditto :D

I have actually saved money when dealing with Slee on a number of occasions --

-- once, I called and spoke with Ben about a potential lift, etc -- he actually talked me out of that idea -- $$ saved --

-- just last week, my Optima Red Top battery that I bought from Slee died b/c mfg. defect -- I spoke with Ben and asked if I should go to a Blue Top, $60 more, and he suggested the Red Top was perfect for the cruiser, since the Blue Tops were meant for full drain-down, not really my application, and that a Red Top would do me better --

-- with Slee, service is part of the purchase, and I prefer that -- :D

My .02
Everything I didn't make myself, I got from Slee. I will more than likely continue with that trend.

my .02

as a parts profesional (yes i said profesional)(20+ years at it)
i believe that service stands before pricing anyday.
BUT, alot of folks don't see it that way.
it's their $$$$ and if they can get something cheaper, they will.
i totally understand. i do the same thing.

now back to buisness at hand.
i havent heard anyone say anything about how L.O.R. handling their customers, or cust support or even their knowledge about the product. only tucker has chimed in on his experience.
and maybe if more people used LOR, they might support TLCA, has anyone asked them to?

but i agree, that SLEE has a great rep. and understandably.

i kinda know ben from working with him at a toyota dealer in denver(nice crazy guy)
robbie went out of his way in moab and helped my family and i off poison spyder the night of the dinner.(he didnt have to, but he did.and we were thankful for the help) to robbie

times are tough people, i think before we go ripping on someone for price shopping, we should get our facts straight.

HAVE A GREAT DAY FOLKS!! ;)

They used to support TLCA and Trails, and it was much appreciated. Like you say, times are tough.

MY QUESTION WOULD BE..

if you support TLCA, what are your obligations?
give away free stuff at events?
your time?
discounts?

all that could kill a small shop......
and put you out of biz....

and also.....how much biz did they get when they did support TLCA?
maybe it wasnt making a difference to them either way.

I suspect that was the case.

(And I'm officially done with this thread.)

I'm a TLCA business member...

$100 per year, includes 1st class

that pretty much covers it for what you MUST do....I consider it a method of getting my company name in front of a bigger audience...gets ya listed on the Vendor list in Trails and on the TLCA.org website.

1st class individual member dues are $40 ($25 + $15 for 1st class)...I consider the $60 difference a donation/ad expense.

Being on the TLCA vendor list does put you on the "please support our event" mailing list for many of the TLCA events....but there is no requirement that you send anything, and no requirement that a discount be offered.

If $66 makes a difference to you, get rid of the 80 series now!

LOL! Yeah, that's damn near half a tank of gas nowadays out here in the PRK:)

Seriously though I'd say give a call to the shops you are considering and ask some good questions about what you think you need, what you're planning on doing with your truck, etc. I'll bet hands down you'll get the most informed, good advice from Slee. I know they'll even tell you NOT to buy some of their stuff - that says alot in my opinion about their motivations and business ethics. Good luck with "saving" money on modifying your 80 though!

IMHO there is no need to jump all over newbies or relative newcomers who ask reasonable questions and may not know yet about the forum peeves. Advice is one thing, semi-ranting is another... Let's keep this an informative, objective, and hospitable place, shall we?

Agreed. I have nothing but *GREAT* things to say about Christo, Robbie, and Sleeoffroad. I don't think anyone knows more about 80s. I have purchased from them in the past and will continue to do so in the future. But that does not mean there aren't other good shops out there, and I think we should support good shops wherever we find them to help keep more than one place in business.

I know we are all cynical about the type of buyer who goes for the cheapest vendor and then calls an established vendor for support, and that is a valid concern. But sonarafun said the other vendor was helpful on the phone.

Bottom line IMHO: Sleeoffroad is among the best in service, support, and overall 80's knowledge, but that doesn't mean there aren't other good shops out there that we should also support.

Not wanting to get into this "barbecue sonoranfun festa", just a data point, I had a good buying experience from Robert at Liquid Off Road.

Well it seems like we repeat this argument once a week. I've said before and I'll say it again support the good shops like Cdan, and Slee but don't hesitate to go shop for your product. In the end you get what you pay for.

Buy your stuff from where ever you want.

I get most of my stuff from Slee, but that doesn't mean that you have to do the same. I send my business to someone who I know will stand behind their products and will be there when I need answers to questions or help with an install. I'm generalizing, so don't take this as a slam agains Liquid or anyone else.

As he's posted before and from what I've learned from conversations with Christo, I think the thing that bothers them the most is when people call them for help with stuff that they didn't sell them OR when people "mine" their expertise to determine what they should get, then go elsewhere -- that's a waste of their time...and as we all know...time is money.

I find no fault in a person who wants to save a few bucks. Our regulars have been "conditioned" to call folks like Christo or myself and we forget that. The end result is we assume that everyone has already figured out the best places to call for a compromise between service and price.

If you know EXACTLY what you want and are good at finding it at the lowest possible price by all means go for it. If you are not certain what you need, you would be better off dealing with someone who is.
