How do you manage not to break stock axles running 44" tires?
I've noticed those trucks usually have no axle upgrades, even on IFS.
I'm no expert on anything I just allways assumed it was because of the snow and Ice. No matter what you wont get the kind of traction like you would get on the moab slick rock. Or on almost any other terrain, rocks, dirt , even mud just wouldn't be the same. In utah snow wheelin' we've had breakage. Allways been from things hidden under the snow a foot or two. You get haulin ass to make a climb and hit something you don't see, it can be a problem. I would like to hear more about this build, the fj80 type cruisers I've seen built for this were beyond bad ass.
I would think that a dana 60 would be a good choice though. In heinous conditions like I would imagine you might find in Iceland at times, could be life or death, due to exposure. You know if you break and are stranded for a period of time. I don't really know what I'm talking about though. Maybe I'm just sounding stupid with this life or death crap, I kind of doubt it though. Even living in utah as I do, winter sucks I hate the cold. Especially when I'm laying on my back in snow, trying to fix some broken stuff. Even here, early season if you had to leave your rig behind, it could be there buried until spring. Death from exposure is totally possible in the utah winter as well. Cold and deep snow make for serious conditions.
I was curious about lockers though, are you gonna' run them? I know that out here my friends in almost stock yota pickups could out wheel me in the snow. The open diffs seem to help them track and keep their line as they pushed through. While myself, with the swampers and lockers would get stuck soooo easy. I just dig in, sink untill I am stuck, no traction and snow packed around your axles it doesn't take much. I usually only lock one hub in the front when in the snow, it seems to help.
