I will definitely have to pick your brain when I install my led lights! Don't know if I want to permanently install a ham in my GX however maybe in my K1500.

Well, that is one of the things I like about this install. It isn't really permanent, and that was part of the design. I can pull the parts out and make the unit backpack portable in less than 5 minutes. All the bells and whistles stay in, but I keep an extra antenna with related parts in the car in case I ever need to make this happen. Versatility. I'll tell ya though as a guy who just went from my custom Chevy to a GX, the GX takes me places the Chev wouldn't go. Not baggin on Chev, but the GX is a nice package. Feel free to pick the brain when you wish.I will definitely have to pick your brain when I install my led lights! Don't know if I want to permanently install a ham in my GX however maybe in my K1500.
How about I fly you to ATL, you give me a parts list, I feed you beer, and you can hang out and BBQ this summer, and you do this to my GX. The parts list will be ordered in advance and I will pick you up and drop you at the airport![]()
LOL, I'm taking you seriously. Tell ya what, the dual battery bit isn't so bad, do you have a list of other electrical you want done? Shoot over a wish list of all the electrical mods via PM or something and I will mentally map out the kind of time I would need to get it done, the tools I would need and I'll begin to ponder the options.I have a couple hundred thousand miles in delta. It is doable
For the reinstallation of the plastics I used a combination of spring, and rivet in place DZUS mounting clips (14mm). These make removing the plastics a breeze with a 1/4 turn. The clips are held in place by a retaining washer and so they don't fall out of place when you move the plastics. Great when getting into things in the mud.
Well, I know some folks are planning radion installs soon, so I don't have time to write it all up at the moment, but I'll at least post pictures to help with ideas and edit later.
I really wanted the radio face above the mirror, so I carefully took apart the sunglass holder and then took a simple piece of stainless 3/16 steel and bent it at an angle I liked, then pop riveted it to the top of the housing. I put some good velcro on there and drilled a little hole in the drivers side of the housing so I could run the cable through. I used some 4 conductor (22gauge?) shielded security wire from Home depot and left a few feet hanging out for later. I then was exceptionally careful to run the cable down the drivers A-pillar BEHIND the airbag with the factory wire loom then down to the floor panel.
Nice job! I am going to do my head install in the sunglasses holder as well but my idea was to keep the holder in place and make room somehow for it to close with the head unit inside. How hard was it to get the drop down holder out of its hinge? Also is the upper console simply held in by spring clips or is there a few screws up there too? Thanks for the awesome write up and any knowledge you can send my way!
Muchas Gracias!
