1993 fzj80 with 420,000km. Head gasket and every engine seal was replaced 30,000km ago when I bought it along with some other maintenance, everything was within Toyota spec as per FSM. Have not had any issues with the engine.
Driving home from work this week just get on the highway and the engine completely cuts out.
No problem I think I'll jump out check my fuses, and be on my way. The engine just cranked, and would occasionally give a puff of life.
Got it towed, home and the troubleshooting began. Had fuel, Spark, and compression. My mind turns to Electrical everything checked out. Here I was stumped, my next step was to my valve cover and take a look and then I see it. My Exhaust cam broke and only left the first 3 valves actually spinning.
This definitely explains why she won't start.
So my Big Question is what happened and where do I go from here.
I have 3 thoughts
1. Camshaft just broke nothing directly caused it.
2. Bottom end caused it, with absolutely no warning sounds
3. Head cause it, either, spring or a valve stuck or broke not allowing it to turn.
Let me know what you think.
