Originally I didn’t think I was going to make a mirror arm for the 40Series but one mysteriously showed up at my door. Turns out not to be too difficult to modify the design to get it to work with a universal mirror like the Gentex.

Btw, this one happens to fit 77-84 FJ-40s

Whew, that was close, mines a '76. I guess it gets to stay in the 20th century where it belongs ;).

In all seriousness, whats the mirror to use on these fancy mounts you've been cranking out lately? The newer dissappearing back up camera in the mirror of the newish Tacomas is neat.

That’s one option so long as it uses a wedge mount. Otherwise it’s any aftermarket mirror you want. The Gentex I have has backup camera display, map lights, compass and outside temp. My other mirror also has homelink for the garage door opener.

I mostly drive my 40 to get away from the modern world. :meh:

This bracket was on a 77 I junked out. Looks just like my 72. Was there a bracket/mirror change in 77? So I was wondering can a later style mirror bracket be attached to the early windshield frame and use your bracket?

Not one that I've seen before. But its a 2-hole so would likely work ok.

The distance between the holes changes for '78 I believe.
On my '78 FJ45 Canadian spec, the "78 mirror will not fit on a '77 windshield frame.
Well, it does, but it is only held on with one screw.

If that’s the case I’d only need to slot the holes then it would work multiple years. :hmm:

Yes.
And the difference was not large, maybe a couple of screw diameters.
