When installing a brake wheel cylinder with an overhaul kit, how worn (no rust) can the bore be before the cylinder needs replacing? Will reaming it out smooth the worn ridges...how much reaming is allowed before it becomes too oversized for the replacement rubber inner pistons? 71 FJ40. Thanks in advance...

Usually the cylinder hone is not going to remove much metal just put a good cross hatch pattern in the bore.
There are other sizes of cups available and usually can find one a tad larger if funds are tight.

If you can feel a ridge after about a minute with the hone, it usually means they are worn out and need replacement.
