Are there over the counter stainless lines available yet or is everyone still getting custom fittings on the ends?

I'm using, off the shelf, stoptech braided lines on the 4 corners. The 1-2 (depending on VSC or not) in the rear, frame to axle, were custom made at Parkers. These are the ones that will need to be lengthened if you run longer travel shocks. Goodridge does sell a complete (5-6 piece) kit but I liked Stoptechs design a bit better.

I agree with hoser on the Stoptechs being a notch or two above in overall quality of construction.

I'm now on my third set of SS brake lines up front I can tell you the current Stoptech lines are much better constructed and worth the coin.

They should reduce or eliminate the wear issues I had with the previous 2 sets (1-came from a local clutch and brake shop...installed years ago; the 2nd set came from NAPA; and the current are Stoptechs that came with the BBK).

Update a year later

Hey Mudders

I just realized its been a year with the BBK on Atilla (The Hundy...)

Still like the kit, still recommend it if you have the $$$ to spend. It has made the driving experience a lot better for the way I use my truck.

Cheers

Chris

The factory system is just OK

I use the DBA 4000XS rotors and EBC yellow stuff brake pads all around and they stop very well, much better than stock. I also use stainless brake lines. Here is a pic of the rotors

Not sure if my OEM brakes/calipers were indicative of what other's experience on their 100's or not...but the Stoptech Big Brake Kit (aka BBK) is at or very near the top for best mods I've done. A HUGE difference compared to the OEM on mine.

And with nearly 8,000lbs of running weight in full tour/camping mode its nice to be able to completely and satisfactorily rely on the brake system now.

I have run the PowerSlot and the EBC premium rotors - significant improvement over stock in mountain driving when it comes to fade and initial "bite" with differing versions of EBC pads

When these rotors wear out, I will be trying the EBC rotors below with EBC Truck Yellow Stuff

Does anyone that ordered the Stoptech SS braided lines have an order number they can PM me so I can point them to the correct size and connectors on either end?

^ sorry I don't...mine came with my BBK.

Has anyone tried StopTech's cheaper sports kit? It comes with the SS brake lines but doesn't include the 5th line from the frame to the rear axle.

The Goodrich SS lines say for 98-02 with out VSC. Do the SS lines affect the VSC?

You can get the Goodridge SS lines for rigs with VSC or without, in stock length, +2" over stock, or +4" over stock. According to Goodridge though, they have only sold a few pair of the longer length lines. They also make them to order. Look at the thread in the FAQ for information on them, correct part numbers, and the things you may need to have changed if you order them. I just ordered them and they arrived the other day. I had Goodridge make them the way I wanted from the start so I didnt need to send them back to get fittings changed. I sent them the link to the thread in the FAQ and a couple pics of the stock lines on my truck.

How is the noise? I just got the Jonesys's rotors and ceramic pads, wondering how the noise is under braking...

SanDiegocruiser has not been that happy with the noise...especially off-road. And that is consistent with what I have heard from others like Spresso , etc concerning ceramic pads. Might check with them.... I heard enough to stay away from Ceramic pads....

none so far.
I've been eyeballing these for a few weeks now and hope to have em installed before GSMTR.
The performance is a lot better than stock. Most companies' rotors are made overseas and finished in the US. If they were just as good as OEM, then it the price was a good buy, but we'll see how they perform over the long haul.
I had these on my old 100. Sandiegocruiser has them too. He said the squeak a lot when dusty. Mine also squeaked at low speeds on the street. I'd try their rotors with OEM pads.

There was a big improvement in fade from stock.

That rotor combo could work well but I've never had a problem with ceramics and a lot of newer vehicles are coming stock with them. Pads are cheap and I'd swap them if a unbearable noise started. :steer:

You are probably thinking of the Goodridge lines. AFAIK, there is only one type of Stoptech design. You will still need to get the 5th (and 6th) brake line elsewhere.

If anyone else wants to run Goodrich SS lines with stoptech sports rotors and pads, but don't want stoptechs SS lines (because they're not extended and don't include the frame to rear axle line) these are the parts numbers for a 2000. They probably work on all 98-02.
