Good morning. Is there a good upgrade to replace my stock headlights that is reliable?
As we know they are marginal today......
Thank you.

Are they marginal? My references are the quads on a 62 and the LEDs on my 2022 Outback. My hundy’s headlights are WAY better than the 62, but a little less great than the Subie’s LED’s.

Adequate, but not worth upgrading for me. Have you checked your voltage at the back of the housing?

I did a ton of research on this after I bought my first car with factory LEDs and was blown away by the quality and crispness of the light output.

Summary: good light output is expensive and the lamp and reflector/housing should be designed for each other. It’s relatively easy to just light-bomb the road in front of you, but it’s awful for other drivers.

I’ve improved halogens by making sure there’s no resistance at the housing, and on my hundy the PO replaced one of the housings after an oopsie. So, every night I get to compare a 26 year old hazed-over headlamp to a crystal-clear new OEM one. Big difference.

I put Philips Ultinon Pro9100 (www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BKSSG1BF) in my aftermarket depo headlights (www.roughtrax4x4.com%2Fhlamp026-left-hand-headlamp-100-series-05-2005-on.html) and have been happy with the performance. The low beams needed clocking correctly to get the beam pattern correct, but the lamp has a design feature for that, just make sure you wind the grubs screws in, not out like I did to start with .

Caveats - I'm RHD UK, regulations may vary in your location, blah, blah, blah.

I tried LED bulbs, but went back to halogen bulbs because the quality and throw were far more superior. Only a true custom projector setup will yield you better results.

I've been looking at TEQ Custom's retrofit headlights. 100 Series Land Cruiser Custom Headlights (98-07) - https://teqcustoms.com/collections/100-series-land-cruiser-headlights/products/retrofit-headlights-100-series-lc-teq-customs. I haven't had the extra funds lying around to convince myself to pull the trigger yet.
Yikes - basically alibaba specials. I wouldn't pay $700 for those...

@NM Cruiser

I would do the following:

Get Morimoto MLED 2.0's and pair with the LW D2S Low Beam bracket for LX470, retrofit your existing headlights:

- Lexus Lx470 (Low Beam) Projector Retrofit Brackets - https://lightwerkz.net/en-ca/products/lexus-lx470-low-beam
- Morimoto MLED 2.0 Bi-LED Projectors (LHD) - https://lightwerkz.net/en-ca/products/bi-led-morimoto-m-led-2-0-lhd

I used SAVE10 code for a discount

I found this thread helpful regarding the retrofit here: HOW TO : LX470 Bi-LED projector retrofit Morimoto MLED 2.0 - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/how-to-lx470-bi-led-projector-retrofit-morimoto-mled-2-0.1317949/

I ordered headlights from TEQ customs at the start of September with a quoted 6 week lead time. I gave them 8 weeks and emailed asking for an update and was told they’re having a hard time sourcing headlight housings. I asked them for an ETA and haven’t received a response yet.

I’ll update this thread when they ship out the headlights. I’m bummed I wanted to have light for day light savings time.

Yeah, totally agree, the stock headlights aren’t great these days.
I’m running this setup from this website
LC100 LED Projector Headlights | Land Cruiser 2004–2007 - https://www.ninjacruiser.com/products/toyota-land-cruiser-lc100-led-projector-headlights-2004-2007-facelift-6000k and honestly it’s a night and day difference compared to stock.
Worth checking out if you’re still thinking of upgrading.

Did you install in the original glass housing? Any modifications needed? Issues?
Did you use the low or high beams?

If used in high beams, the DRL's are gone?
Installed in the glass housings, no mods. Did both high and low. No issues. Did lose the DRLs but I don’t mind

If you havent upgraded yet, I installed VLEDS in my '03 LandCruiser back in 2016 or so, and they are fantastic.
I did the headlights, and taillights. I don't remember which items, but they've probably been superceeded by newer products.
No issues. A little pricey, but they usually have promos.

I had a similar experience. Mine said 4 week lead time and they took 12. When I would contact them for updates, I got a different story each time. But I finally got them, and I’m really happy with them. FWIW, their post-sales support has been awesome.

I received my lights 12/1/25, almost 12 weeks after I ordered them. They look great. I haven’t installed them yet.

I just installed my OEM+ from TEQ. Had jumper wires for the additional high beams fall out because they weren't fully crimped and the low beams aren't hi/low BiLEDs...
