Living in the Past
SILVER Star
Yes it was spot welded. It was standard on the FJ40.not and options. 9/72 buckets seats were standard in the US market. Most markets continued with the 40/60 bench seat.

I think the screw jack spring retainer clamp is riveted in place. I have never had issues with keeping the seat in place with the oem buckles up front and the cross pin rear mounts.
I was under the impression that on the earlierest trucks, this was for access to the battery?.....and then was repurposed into a toolbox.

No seats.....im looking for a full set...wink wink nod nodDid it have the jump seats?
The box it's self is welded/ spot welded to the body.
As mentioned before, it's model year dependent.Hmm. I wonder if it was an option? Mine sure doesn't have it.
Go back and read my post #3 in this thread. You said you bought a '71 which should have the tool box. As indicated above, by one who would know, the tool box was not an option in the US market. Take a look at your floorboard, it has probably either been repaired or replaced.
Try againAh, somehow I missed that it was not available in the USA. Rum may have clouded my vision at the time. Thank you.
To clarify, the vehicle buyer did not have the option of having no box. The only option was having one. Standard equipment as part of those production years.Ah, somehow I missed that it was not available in the USA. Rum may have clouded my vision at the time. Thank you.
I had to take typing also in high school. I thought it was for girls, lol. Then I joined the Army and became a radio teletype operator........hahahahahahahaJust wish I had a better viewer. Advanced technology passed me by a long time ago. For a reference, we were required to take typing class in high school on manual typewriters, no computers. Sometimes the fiche is just easier this way.

A couple of pics showing the tool box still in my 64 FJ 40Way different and not a great design, IMO. I had that box on my 1970 and the latches that held it closed and the seat in place were shot. Every time I nailed the throttle I almost fell over backwards in the seat. Much less safe than the later seat brackets are.
Same in my ‘64, except one of my latches is broken. Haven’t been able to find one.A couple of pics showing the tool box still in my 64 FJ 40 View attachment 3864937View attachment 3864938
