We visited the Southern Grace Distillery in Mt Pleasant a few weeks back, after we met our daughter in MTP for lunch. Enjoyed the facility -old run down prison. Will let you taste anything and will let you take pics of their in-house bourbon-style whiskey drink recipes. Tours are free - didn't have time that day to do that.

Wow, where? I go to Chattanooga often to visit my mother & brother and have found some occasional gems but nothing like this! How much was the Stagg & Weller Full Proof and EH Taylor? Found a Blanton's in San Diego a few weeks ago for $75 and should have bought it.....

Just south of nashville. Stagg was $250, Weller FP and 12 was $250, Blantons was $100, EH was $100. Everything else was retail. They had everything too, Elmer, Pappy, RockHill, it was pretty impressive. Most of this was for others, but i got a few.

Im not a huge stagg fan, but im not a rye guy. If you like ryes it would probably be delicious.

FWIW -

I'm still experimenting with the Bourbon Sour.

EDIT: Newest and best mix: 1.5 to 2oz Sour Mix; 3-4oz Bourbon, 1 Egg White (1oz).

Would recommend dry shake and pour (not strain) over a large ice cube. - - Do not wet (ice) shake and strain - get more foam that way.

Homemade lemon sour mix: 1 cup Meyer Lemon juice, fresh squeezed. 1/2 cub agave syrup, 1/2 cup water.

Had the NY version (wine float) in Pinehurst this weekend - pretty good:

Took most of the day off of work to do yard work and crack open this bottle my boss gave me. I got the front grass cut, but not going to say I got very far into the new fence past the one side minus the gate

BTW - May sound weird, but Heather and I did a side/by/side on 4R SB and Old Forrester 100 Black Label. I then just put the leftover together to drink - wow, nice blend LOL.

Whiskey Kitchen, The Blind Barbour and one other bar bought a barrel volume of this. $18 so not cheap, but - I have had worse for more. 129.4 proof, but pretty smooth - seems like i have had hotter/worse at much lower proofs.

I feel like, as with many a JohnVee post, there is a great deal of tongue in cheek here, but there is some science behind he bourbon (or any liquor really) and water thing.
1st- strong liquor can simply overpower some more subtle flavors that may exist in a spirit. This is most often the case with cask strength stuff.
2nd- there are many alcohol soluble oils and compounds that come through during distillation. A wee bit of dihydrogenmonixide can drop these compounds out of solution and bring their flavors to the foreground.
I know with my own distillations an eye dropper and a little bit of distilled water can really wake a dram up and bring out flavors you might have been missing.
I didn’t read the whole spruce eats article so I don’t know what they were recommending, but an eye dropper and a glencairn glass is a great way to taste fine whiskey.
