Also look at a 235/85/16
33" tall and skinny.I'm all about the best gas milage for a DD.
They are available in lots of tread designs. It's what the duallys run.

235/85/16s are going to be pushing in on such a massive truck unless they are E rated.

LX470s weigh in at 3 tons with no mods.

DUALLY???
they all come E rated

yeah, I never liked pizza cutters, just look funky on that big a truck! Also, easy to roll off a bead at low pressures.

I just got 295 BGF AT's. Too much daily and highway driving to go more aggressive right now. They are awesome on road. Haven't really tested them off road, and don't have super high expectations, but am OK with that.

The 285 size is OK, but 295 looks a lot better with my maxed out lift. Just aren't many aggressive 295 options in 16". Going to 18" opens up a lot of options and maybe will look at that in a couple of years when the AT's are ready for replacement. More expensive though.

Also, the tires I had sucked and I'm very glad to be rid of them. Not because of size though, they just sucked. Onroad... sucked, off road... sucked, ate up the sidewalls, didn't last worth a crap. Can you tell I didn't like them? Procomp X-Terrains.

Very nice truck b/t/w... favorite hundy color.

Well, the way I see it. If an armored soild axle 100 series can handle a 235/85/16 e rated tire in Africa then I think it will be fine on our civilian rides. However, they measure out to about 32" and are 9.5" wide.

Also here is some interesting research about narrow tires offroad. Many misconceptions out there about wider si better.

Expeditions West: Tire Selection for Expedition Travel

In most areas of the world pizza cutters are actually better off road, no question. If you have a split rim, a locked bead, or have the means to carry multiple spares, the narrow tire is amazing. Expedition style almost demands some tall skinnies.

I know all about the tall narrows, but I prefer a 12.5 or so width in the South East. I have had the best luck with them, perhaps it is all in the type of tire I was running? Who knows!

I'm am all for a wider tire for east coast wheeling as well. But in a big SUV I would be more concerned about mileage, tread life, towing capacity and more expedition type wheeling. Not sure you need wide rock crawlers on a Hundy that sees the hwy 95% of the time.

For my 40 I had 14" wide Rockers, for my Taco I will be getting 255/85/16's.

Rockin' the mods!

So put in the order for some mods today. I decided to go ahead and have my friends at ACC do the work before the truck comes to Houston.

Ironman Deluxe Commercial bumper (with light package)

Metaltech sliders
Ironman suspension with 2" or so lift
Goodyear duratrac tires (285)

I can't wait!!!

The lift will put you up about 5-6 inches from stock on a Lexus (ask me how I know).

That bumper will be a little different looking since that is a Prado in the pic, but I love that bumper...I have the same plan.

Looks good....any chance you might want to sell the stock tires?

Yep. They will be at ACC. I'll take best offer. Anything to offset the build cost. And for you...I'll make a hell of a deal!

I forgot the slee front diff drop. Also I am thinking about an ironman winch. My install will be the first in the states on an LX, so the US rep is going to come down to see the install. If he's going to be here, it makes sense to do the whole thing, winch and all. Will depend on the price.

Will the diff drop make it harder to install skids?

Good question. And one I haven't asked. But the diff drop is needed to correct the angle. So I am thinking no.

Should not be an issue. I see plenty with skids and the drop.
