Bose 151s with no sound! (1 Viewer)

So, I just installed an auxiliary fuse box on my 40. (pic below) It is from painless and I couldn't be happier! This is to replace the PO's hack job of just putting in spade connectors into the fuse block. Well, I wanted to remove the litte 4" speakers that were blocking the kick vents and put in Bose 151s mounted on the roll bar. Well, the fuse box install went fine but when it came to replacing the speakers I hooked them up to the channels previously occupied by the 4"s and nothing but a faint static would come out of the Bose! I hooked them back up to the 4"s and it sounded fine! I know these are house speakers but no one else has mentioned this problem. What am I doing wrong? I have a Kenwood head unit, if that helps.

How easy was it to mount the 151s to your roll bar? It looks like they come with wall mounts. I have cheapo speakers on my roll bar and would like to upgrade.

What kind of impedance is the head unit looking for? Even if the speakers had the wrong impedance they should play something (in my experience, but I'm a stereo/electronics expert by any means). Could it be something as simple as not having the polarity the same for both speakers?

That was my exact same thought, and this was the PO's head unit I'm not too sure of the details but I quickly googled last night and found that it was rated for 22 W of power. Not sure of the resistance though. I know other mud members run this setup and am curious what their experience is...

Car audio speakers have a lower impedance than home speakers. With a higher impedance speaker connected to the head unit you won't be getting full power to the speakers, the head unit might simply not have the necessary power output.

I didn't look at the specs of your unit but typically that 50x4 number means 50 total, so divide by 4 for watts per channel. Just something to consider. You should be able to hear something though. Are you sure the speakers are good? Hook them up to something else?

I just hooked them up to the home audio system and no dice, looks like I got a bum pair... it's odd for both of them to be bad... maybe they fell off the truck?? Contacting the ebay seller now.

I also tested continuity on them and the resistance and the resistance was either very low or infinity. It also wasn't continuous. Will let you know what I figure out.

If those speakers have some age on them and were used in a humid enviroment the voice coil wiring may have rotted out . Most car speakers are set for 4ohms of impedance .

mount is just an ARB CB antenna mount clamp for a ARB bull bar, I put some inner tube around the roll bar so it wouldn't scratch it

this was back in 2003.....so its kinda foggy, but I wouldn't change a thing

This dosent help the bad EBay seller but replacement drivers are available from BOSE at a fair price.
