It’s so dry here right now it’s a waste of water to wash a car. I’ve spent more washing Bonnie the last month then all my other cars combined for last year.

When I drive home no one can follow due to the amount of dust gets kicked up, it’s like thick fog.
They are calling for some rain here by mid-week - we need some!

Considering swapping the filler neck hose when I reinstall tank. I assume there are many proven after market versions which won’t give me a hernia reinstalling?

Old one showing some cracks although I doubt it’s affecting the integrity of the hose itself since I’m in there shouldn’t I upgrade from the original?

That one was a replacement suggested in a now older post by TJ @PabloCruise. Part number and source should be in the material I sent you. I don't think hernias are optional when it comes to anything involving removing and reinstalling the gas tank on a Pig without access to a lift.

I’m sure TJ @PabloCruise will be able to quote the part number when we have breakfast in the morning!

Did another round of evapo rust today. Then rinsed the tank twice, drained from lowest point on some paper towels.

First flush saw very minute random particles. Rerinsed it and didn’t see anything. So felt that was encouraging. From what I could see looking inside it looked pretty dang clean!

Took finger and towel and wiped along inside of the hole where fuel transducer goes and got this! I’m curious if I’ll ever be able to rid it of this?

Rain coming tonight and next two days so plans are to reinstall tank unless someone tells me I’m an idiot. New fuel pump ready for install also.

Gonna be good day tomorrow!!

Frankly, my brand new FJ40 fuel tank did not look that good when I had taken out of the box last spring.

Anyone not replace the pads on top of the fuel tank? I’d love to install some for vibration dampening but if it’s not an issue then I need to move forward.

Basically I forgot to buy some this week and hate to spend time going to town. That’s even if I can find some.

Of course it’s an FJ40 and different, but the book says to be sure you have the pads on the bottom, between the floor and tank in place…
That said, I have been through the fuel tank replacements on my ‘56 &’57 t-birds and the woven pads they have were usually ugly and stained but in decent condition. I replaced the ones on the ‘56 but the ‘57 I just re-used..

Not sure that helps you but seems like metal to metal movement could be an ideal environment for a problem to develop

I ended up cutting up some rubber pads that were around the old fuel pump. Glued on top and worked like a charm.

Fuel pump installed, wrestled tank into place. Having problems getting bolts back in even rafter cleaning them. Taking too much pressure to put them back, I’m scared I’m going to break one.

Been searching for my tap and die set but who knows where it’s at. Gonna replace blots after tapping each hole. Have tank suspended with some small straps so my fat ass doesn’t have to wrestle it again.

One of those walk away moments.

Jon, hearing tornadoes in Oklahoma, hope your safe
Don
OKC had one last night, watching weather right now and possible tornado east of here. Quite a bit of lightening, Lots and lots of rain and that’s going to continue until tomorrow. Lots of flooding.

Thanks for checking!
