Ok ok.... Here's an update to my 1FZ_FTE build. I'll start a build thread too for those that are interested.
Spyduh's LX450 Build

Base build is my 97 LX450 3x locked on 187k. I only do overkill and no other way. I decided to rebuild my motor even those it was running perfectly fine just because I knew I was going Forced Induction and it had fairly high miles. Me and my buddy are doing most of the work on nights and weekends and with all side jobs it takes longer than expected.

We just completed the 1fzfe head job. Decked the head, 3 way valve job on all the valve buckets, refaced the valves and cut the stems, installed new valve stem seals and reinstalled the camshafts. Next up is tearing apart the block to put in New piston rings and rod bearings.

Got my parts back from the Cerakote guy. I had it done in Cerakote Glacier black. High temp 2000+ degree coating on my Wits End Turbo Kit.

@spyduh you need to post up the pics here!!!

Not trying to piss in anyone's cheerios but here's my before and after on the high temp Cerakote (C-7600 I think). The guys that did it said they did a high temp burn off then media blasted the parts before coating. 5 years between before and after pics.

At first, I was sad. Then I saw you're in VA. That made it less sad since that's a carbon steel part from Magnaflow. For the cost difference, could you have bought the factory SS exhaust system? My original one lasted 24 years in the Midwest.

Could have but if I recall the OEM Y pipe is in the $1000-1200 range. I don't drive my 80 much and almost never in the snow/salt. I was hoping the Cerakote would help longevity but it certainly didn't. This was a newish product from Cerakote back then so maybe the formula has improved since but I wouldn't recommend the product over a traditional baked on ceramic coating.

Is the factory exhaust stainless steel or aluminized carbon steel? I had always been under the impression that it was the latter.
Factory exhaust is 409 SS. It is designed to have a rust patina to it, but it handles the heat well and will only oxidize to a point, then it slows way down.

Putting the tank in the quarter panel I would think will be a pain for refilling. If your using a small bottle may as well just use the stock washer bottle. Also if I recall methanol fumes are toxic. So if it leaks or spills it will soak into the carpet or sit in the bottom of the quarter panel and stink up the truck.
Being in AZ it will be 100% water except for the rare times I head into freezing temps then I'll add a max of 20% meth, probably less. I don't see venting being an issue. Your link to meth poisening refers to ingesting it, these systems are very commonly trunk mounted without issue and it could easily be externally vented if it seems to be a prob. I made sure to experiment with filling in that location and found it no less convenient than popping the hood every time to fill. You can see from the pic that the tank cap is easily accessible. The tank that comes with the system fits perfectly in that location along w the pump, imo. I have a dual battery setup that doesn't allow me to keep the washer bottle under the hood with the turbo or that would have been my first choice. Still in the experimental phase on all of this, in no way definitive. I'll be sure to post results

It mentions toxicity can occur through ingestion, fumes, and skin exposure. Which the CDC mentions also. When I spilled some in the inside of one of my vehicles it made me feel sick. I think that was 50/50 mix with water.

What is the going thought on downpipe and wastegate blankets on trail trucks? Here in Tennessee almost every trail/park we ride on has at least a few watery/muddy areas even in summer. The truck is not a daily driver stays pretty dirty so I was wondering if getting these blankets grimy is going to be a problem, especially since it appears they can't be easily removed/rinsed off.

Just got off the phone with PTP. Their stance is there isn't enough testing in mud to know. He did say there is an off-road Subaru rally group that uses their downpipe blankets and it sees everything from rain, water, mud, ice and snow. He said there isn't anything negative they have detailed. Water gets dried out during heat cycles. Mud is washed off. Packed mud just stays there.

I pre ordered too.

I was surprised to see an update about OBA, but not the turbo-related down pipe blanket. 😂

Just to be correct. It’s the Downpipe Blanket doesn’t come with the Turbo Kit?
