Bolt on turbo kit (3 Viewers)

Was driving on 5 today near sylmar when a dark lifted 80 series with a rear bumper quickly accelerated after getting on the freeway with 35 tires.

I thought to myself that has to be a turbo or SC cruiser cause no way stock can do that.

Why? The super chargers worked for 93-94.

The Superchargers could be made to work with 93-94 trucks, but they did not out of the box work with the 93-94 trucks. I am fairly certain that Cruiser Dan who has a SC'er on his 94 and he has a large separate injector that has a separate controller that sprays methanol into the air inlet. 2 Benefits from this, cooler air charge but the methanol also acts as the extra fuel the early trucks need.

The Superchargers could be made to work with 93-94 trucks, but they did not out of the box work with the 93-94 trucks. Someone, with more expertise than me, would need to tackle this scenario. My understanding is that the early 1FZ Cruisers (93-94?) could utilize this turbo kit wth a stand alone or piggyback ECU. I’m not sure about earlier year Cruisers.

This obviously would NOT be CARB (smog) approved. But the are many people across the USA, and the globe, that do not have to abide by these ridiculous smog rules.

Joey’s market exposure would increase significantly, by double or more.

Yep - that 1994 OBD1 is a pain in the ass..

You need larger injectors (or a 7th as explained above), a bigger fuel pump, a piggyback ECU to control those injectors and preferably a TCU (transmission control unit) as well. You'd likely want to get an intercooler, because you're no longer limited to the 5-7psi that this kit would be set up for and 15psi with no intercooler is gonna get hot quick.....

As far as how much boost this kit is capable of once you don't have to limit it to 7psi? you'd have to ask Joey - but I would assume 10-12 isn't out of the question?

How much is the rest of it?

I have the TCU in a box - About $900 (was the first thing I bought, before I became unemployed since it's a custom Australia part and took a while to get here) LMK if you want the contact info for the guy in Oz that wires them up.

The rest of it is on the back burner till I get a job again:

Injectors - lots of options but was recommended to use the ID1080's (Injector Dynamics) - About $800
MS3 PRO (piggyback ECU) about $1300
Bigger fuel pump (walbro 455 or similar) about $250
W2A intercooler setup - lots of options, and it now involves modifications to the intake, and the "bolt on" aspect is now complicated.

Well that’s an oxymoron statement right there, what do you mean regret? If he bought it and regret getting it then he can always sell it. Or he can regret like me who passed on one of the last brand new SC for $3000.

Look on the bright side. Passing on the SC gives you the chance now to buy the turbo Otherwise you would be regretting the SC and trying to unload it for less than you got it to get the turbo instead.

True to a degree, however I could of been rolling on SC for years and then sell it for a profit to get the turbo! These things are 5k used now and days like rainbow colored unicorns.

That is true for you @cruiserdan, but doubt that it is true of @Qball . He would have bought the SC 4 years ago and taken a few years to install and come across the thread of Joey thinking of starting a turbo build just after install and silently hoping it wouldn't come to fruition while still pondering what to do if it actually did. Just trying to make him glad that he passed on the supercharger.

Mine's a 1993 and I am running methanol injection. I installed the blower in August of 2000, with 76,860 miles on the clock. It's now at 208,000 miles and the motor is still sporting the original head gasket. I had PSE Superchargers overhaul the blower in December 2014 with 113,000 miles on it (189,600 on the truck). I was told it was the cleanest one they ever saw with that many miles on it so apparently the methanol/water blend doesn't hurt the rotors.
