Reflections Auto Body in Monroe. Sheldon Medlin is the owner. His number is (704) 843-4551. His shop is out in the sticks closer to Waxhaw than Monroe near Furniture Factory Outlet World (home of the Furniture Man). It'll take you 45 minutes from Charlotte. He is very much an old school body man and country gentleman but his work is impeccable and he is a pleasure to deal with if you don't mind the drive.

not to threadjack - but Furniture Man is hilarious to watch on TV......"You Will Pay Too Much....Waxhaw!!" :) not to mention his somewhat ill-fitting outfit. 25 seconds in.

I can say good things about Tinman Hot Rods, Restorations and Customs in Thomasville. Their labor rate is $35/hr and their work is spot on.

Thanks for posting these recommendations. Anyone else come to mind that's worth adding to the list now that this thread is over a year old?

I have one or two problem rust spots I should quit ignoring and the wife really would like me to get the LC painted...

So here is what I've gathered so far from this thread and and few others:
- Richs automotive in high point
- "good shop in Madison" as mentioned by @fj40z
- Tinman Hot Rods, Restorations and Customs in Thomasville
- Reflections Auto Body in Monroe

Additions are welcome. Thanks!

...and I'm interested in some in the Triangle. The pearl white on my GX is peeling off the roof and hood.

Apex Auto Body Specialists is the best I have come across. Darin the owner is a straight up guy. I actually sold him my 92 Hilux. Their shop is small but the work they do is top notch.

Yeah the shop I used in Madison when I wrecked my green 80 did good work and it was reasonably priced. If you are interested I can get you some contact info. I have heard good things about The Tin Man in Thomasville, if I was getting body or paint work done I think I would give him a shot.

Yes, I'm interested in the contact info. I think I'll check with both the shop in Madison & Tin Man and see which one is a better fit for my plans, budget, etc.

Thanks!

Let me know how it goes. I had him quote some work on my 97 and was really pleased, was just about to drop it off when I got sidelined.

I called Vaughn Motors, unfortunately the only thing they do now is collision work. They are no longer interested in painting full cars or doing any rust repair work.

We'll see what Tin Man says...

Gibson Automotive in Haw River is good but very expensive. Ray's Custom Rides in North Hillsborough was who I was going to use for paint until i decided to tackle it myself. He has done blasting and priming work for me before.

Latest from Tin Man:
2 months wait on any new work
$1500 minimum to "scuff and shoot"
Additional body work is $35/hr.
They couldn't give me a "quote" over the phone but they indicated that adding some rust repair, etc. could easily push it up to $3500. Also they don't actually give jobs "quotes" any more. They bill by the hour and ask you to settle up with them each week for any hours worked. I'll probably swing by there soon so they can see the LC in person.

@S4Cruiser, you accepting clients? ;)

Tin Man did the body and paint on my 40, I sanded down the body and shot some primer to keep the rust at bay. They replaced the rear sill and sill cover, fixed the rear quarters, moved the gas tank fill to the rear, installed a new tank in the rear, fabricated both door sills, fabricated the seat mounts, installed the tilt steering wheel, fabricated a new operating tail gate to match the original with the original hinges, latches and chains and fabricated the new front floor. The seats are the same height as the original seats, the steering wheel is in the same position and comfortable, their painting was very good, yes I paid them by the week and it was paid for before I left their lot. About $4000 total. They currently have my hard top in for rust repair, I can't fabricate or weld, and they haven't touched it in two months. It is just a small shop, mom runs the office, dad and son plus one employee do the body work.

JMC AutoworX

Check with Paul Haga. Not used them personally but a good friend/coworker recommended them to me. I'm gonna have him do some work to the GT pretty soon.

Find out who did the work for @S4Cruiser. That guy does great work and didn't charge a dime over materials. ;) But I'm calling dibs right now if he's still accepting new work.

Does that include removal of that awesome custom polished aluminum rear window trim? :grinpimp:
