We are thinking of going homeless again and full timing around the US, Canada and potentially Mexico in our RV.

Just starting to research Boat racks for our 80. Want to see what creative folk here on Mud have done.

Post your pictures of your Boat up on top of your 80. You can post your 80 pulling a boat too... I was kidding. But we cannot tripple tow so a boat needs to go up on the 80.

Here is a picture of a pretty cool setup taken from the interweb....

And a video of a crazy awesome setup.

Here you go.

Thanks C-Dan,

Your setup looks really enjoyable. Daily bump... there must be more!

Before the lift

Before the lift, bumper, winch, and tires ;)

That truck with the pontoon boat on top looks absolutely ridiculous! lol. I am sure it is fine but I would never want to flat tow that truck like that. That is probably 1600-1800lbs on the top of the truck

I hear you Scotty,

Its hard when you want to live on the road and can only tow 1 vehicle and have a ton of toys to bring with. That toad would be easy to flip around corners due to being so top heavy, but If you're like me and only go 60 max on the freeways, I don't see how it would be a problem. Yes it looks silly for sure!

Daily bump.

That video looks supper sketchy, I would give that rig a wide birth.

I was looking for ideas on this before and found something called the Tinnie Tosser. Its a roof top rack/loader. Might be of interest.

These are on the basic type of "J" racks but there are also the roller type of kayak racks that allow you to roll the boat on from the rear of the truck, which I'm sure could also be used for an aluminum boat or others..

My Dad had one on his SuperDuty. Thing was awesome. I see now that they make a version that you can use a cordless drill on, which must be a bit cheaper than the self powered version.

I was thinking about contacting the company to see if the 80 was a viable candidate or not for my 13' Gregor as I'd like to do the exact thing you're talking about.

Do you currently use your 80 as a TOAD?

Hey Oilbrnr,

I sold the 80 I towed around the US as a toad last weekend, getting ready to set up my new one for Flat towing. If you want to know more about it see: https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/482260-how-flat-tow-your-80-series-safely.html

You would definitely be able to use this system or one like it for your 13'. I'm thinking of just building my own. How much does your 13' weigh?

I gave up on loading a boat on top and opted for an Aquos inflatable. It's folds down to the size of a large suitcase and I mates it with a 5hp merc that weighs 57lbs. The package neatly fits in the back of the cruiser and inflates in about ten minutes.

If my boat -a 23' Wooldridge w/ a inboard V8 - was on my Landcruiser, the 1st call would be to my insurance agent. And I'd have pics to share, no doubt about it!

Bump for you imaginative folks though!

That would be perfect for storing under a bay in the RV. I'm curious what the load limit is on your inflatable?

It's rated for 4 people 15hp max and 1250lbs total. Gear, motor, occupants. With 2 people and regular fishing stuff the 5hp gets it up to about 8-10mph which is enough for me. It does take a bit to plane out but I'm happy. Also the lil motor has a built in gas tank so no extra hoses or tanks to lug around

Yakima cross bars with Malone sea wings and J racks. Pre-lift and 35s. Looking for a trailer setup now.

According to the Gregor site, the new one like mine weighs about 175. I still have the Edie Boatloader that my Dad used on his F-250, but it is so old that I think it would just be cheaper to buy a new one. Problem I have now is with the Slee rear bumper. Not sure I could get the two swingouts out of the way enough for it to load correctly. As I recall, it partially used the rear bumper as a pivot point during a portion of the loading process. It was pretty interesting to watch it load and always had interest at the boat launch.

Going to look at your towing thread and may PM you with questions. I've done research in the past and also spoke to Christo about it. I'm not worried.
