Hello everyone, I have a stock 1997. It looks a bit ridiculous when telling our boat as the rear springs are sagging soo much. Rather than just replacing the rear springs I’d like to do a one to 2 inch lift a lot of any feedback on what you also suggest. I only do occasional offloading and I basically use the truck on the weekends. It would be great if someone had recommendations of a kit but I can piece together stuff if that’s needed. Thanks in advance everyone. Ben

Weight of boat and tongue weight of loaded trailer?

they are 4,000-4,500 depending of fuel and what’s on the boat.

Sorry, my voice texting didn’t work so well on the original post. English is my first language, believe it or not. It was supposed to say that I like the look of them lifted but only occasionally make it off road. I think 3 inch looks the best, but would probably go 2 inches to avoid having to replace extra stuff like brake line etc…. Thanks

Even with a lift you might want to consider some airbags in the springs for towing, or a load leveling hitch.

I'd do OME 861 862, maybe throw some spacers in if it's not high enough for ya after installing and driving a bit.

3" is going to be far far more expensive and involved than a 1.5-2". Those OME "stock height" coils will get you a little lift and ride great since they're dual rate.

Sounds good, thank you

Lift kits and towing don’t mix well
Put some air springs in the back and call it a day

Airbags. Whether you lift or not. That's plenty of extra weight. It's hard to get a spring that is great unloaded and great loaded. Airbags are literally the solution for this kind of situation.

The only valid reason to install a lift on an '80 is to clear larger tires when experience has shown that your off road usage of the rig calls for them. For a road bound rig used on pavement (especially for towing) that seldom sees any significant off road tasking, a lift is the last thing you need.

And if you lift the rig it is still gonna squat when you set a load on the towball.

As mentioned above, air bags for the rear springs are your best answer. inexpensive, easy to install and no compromises imposed on the rig for the rest of your uses.

Mark...

Call Cruiser Outfitters and they'll get you setup with a great suspension system. As others have said, if you're considering towing I'd do airbags as well for when the boat is hooked up.

I frequently tow 3500 lbs of trailer and a car full of kids and stuff. I have the 0" lift Dobinson's and airbags with 0 PSI of pressure as bump stops. I previously had the stock springs with the air bags and towed many miles with air bags. The bags were fine until the heat underneath got to be too much and melted the air lines, then things were ugly for the rest of that trip until I could repair the lines at camp.
I'd go with Dobinsons all around with the toyota shocks. I did Icon shocks which are firmer and good at reducing oscillations from concrete pavement expansion joints and absorb washboard well. If you're doing normal pavement stuff then the Toyota shocks are plenty good and softer on impacts.
BTW, the 0" lift springs give 1-2" of lift over stock/sagged springs.
