I give up looking for this easy and really stupid question. I bought a non working 75 fj40 and at this time I'm wiring in the front blinkers. So here is the questions. The blinkers have three lights and three wires. what lights do what? What are running lights and what part is the blinker. All the wiring diagrams show two wires. What do I do with the third wire and which one of the lights is it. Ok enough dumb questions for now thanks for the help.

is the harness original and un-molested? either way, it's easy enough to put a volt meter to it. that'll tell ya which one's the running light portion and which one's the turn signal portion.

according to the factory manual, the turn signal portion of the harness should be green/black and green/yellow for front right and left.

there should be only two wires in the 75 blinkers. I think its as georg mentioned, a green, and a green with stripe(color is side dependant). I think someone added a ground wire to your blinkers(good thing).

Side and top are markers(green wire IIRC), and large orange front is blinker(green with stripe wire).

thanks guys I will get them hooked up thanks

'75 was a transition year moving the marker lamp from the side cowl to the park/turn/marker light assemby. Your third wire is for the marker lamp to connect to the wire harness near the location of the cowl were the early marker was located. On my '77 the marker and parking lamp wires are spliced inside the light assembly, thus only two wires to plug into the harness. The ground side of the circuit is the assembly bolted to the fender, there is a big serrated lock washer used to scratch through the paint to make contact to bare metal. This ground side can be a problem due to rusting from not being potected from road spray. Later years have have a ground wire to a better potected location inside the engine compartment.
