Hi everyone,
I’d like to know the good and bad of the BJ71 Landcruiser with a 3.5 turbo diesel. Manual 5 speed.
I’m thinking about getting one.
Are parts easy to find?
Any engine issues to worry about?
$35,000 dollars.

BJ71s are great. $35k is steep so it should be in really good shape. Any pictures of it?

Good:
13bt engine -great engine, parts are getting harder/impossible to find. Block/crank/cam/head are only used. Good news is they aren’t failure points at all. Still full rebuild kits available.
Injector pump/injectors can be easily rebuilt by shops.
5 speed - h55f is great.
Axles/brakes/tcase no worries at all

A lot of body parts are shared across the 70 series so no worries there either although some inside pieces are getting harder to find.

The main thing is condition. I would hope at $35k it’s pretty solid. Very minimal rust, drivetrain engine been maintained somewhat and in good running shape.
I’d make sure the cooling system is in good shape, ie no weeping or dirty radiator or old coolant hoses.

There are some upgrades you can do that really wake up that 13bt and driving experience. Not needed but do make a heck of a driving difference.

2.5” exhaust minimum
Upgraded turbo - gturbo or Holset-td04

Thanks for your reply.
Vehicle is at worldimports in Jacksonville Fl.
Only exterior pics, have requested interior pics.
They have 2-3 of them.

Where is the BJ71 being imported from? Is it left or right hand drive?

Of course, we need pictures, especially the underside.

Look at the classified for 70 series for some comparisons.

I have not seen them yet, possibly tomorrow.

I thought, perhaps incorrectly, that the BJ71 was a JDM Land Cruiser and therefore RHD.

Probably why I should never respond to technical questions. 😁

I’ve learned to never say “Toyota never made that” because someone will always pop up with “well in for the papa New Guinea market, in the first week of April. for 2 days only Toyota made a 1990 turbo 1HZ 4 door troopy with removable frp top, 1 LHD 1 RHD with 1/2 doors, full coil springs and 9.5” axles with lockers.”

I only chirped in as I’ve seen a few LHD bj71 for sale.

Don’t forget the rear A/C vents!

I think Italy got the BJ71 since that seems like the only place I have seen LHD BJ71s for sale
Most of central Europe had the BJ71 , not to many sold as they where more expensive then the BJ70/73 . They also have a pretty good following back home and it is hard to find unmolested ones as most have been used offroad for 3 decades.
