Thanks guys!

And awesome conversion with the old VW tank, where did you get the idea for that and how much does the tank hold?

Aahaha no thats not my engine, that would be bad news! It was just a exhaust mount that I hadn't tighted down. We where fiddling with trying to get the temporary glass pack quieter by adding a twist of sheet metal inside. It worked a bit.

As far as the tank, I just kept a eye on Craigslist for something small and saw that. Researched the dimensions and called the guy up and bought it. One day I will take pictures of the complete system line routing, fphe, switching valve ect.
Better ways to do a tank? sure but this was cheap and perfect for me.

So I started on the rust yesterday and got this small back portion done and primed. Then started cutting on the inside today, there is always more then you thought haha. I am cutting, then poly wheeling, then wire wheeling then doing two or more coats of opsho then rustoleum rust converter followed by rustoleum rusty primer and then color. Hope that does the trick! for a few years anyways...

Anyone know what happened here? how did it come out and how does it stay in? as you can see I haven't cleaned it up to look myself yet ;)

Pictures of some body work. Also Like I idiot and went to spray the rest of the rims.. luckily only did one when it started to sag off the primer Dang! forgot recoat within a hour or wait 2 days. Really? even after doing that on the grill! to many beers I guess haha

Took out way more of this floorboard then I thought I would have to, I just kept cutting back until there was no rust.

Thanks for the encouragement guys :hillbilly::beer:

Man, that's a lot of surgery. I would have had to do that and then some with Moonshine's old body. I went the easy route and just got a new body:hillbilly:

Thats what I keep thinking lately new body, new body haha crap.

No its all fun, good stuff to do... once.

I will have to get your guys opinion on paint soon, looks like it may be coming sooner then I planned.

Thanks guys!

Either you or the PO overfilled the slip Joint with grease, then when the shaft compressed it forced that cap out. I am not sure if you can get it back in without taking apart the driveshaft.

The plug on my front driveshaft came out as well, I went to a driveline shop, they said that that grease nipple does not do a whole lot since it is right at the end, it would be better situated in the middle or something.
Anyways, I just greased up the splines with some moly and threw it back in.
One day when I have it apart I will plug the hole up.

Didn't get to work last weekend, but we are slow at work now so I am making up time.
Friday we put Nicks thirds back in with his new 5.29s and threw his front and rear axle back together. I had to talk him in to springing for new axle seals but he is glad he did now. Broke em in and thats all we had time for.

Saturday I helped a buddy weld up some new hangers for some axles he bought for his tandem axle trailer and we tube the axles. I always like watching people try to learn how to weld for the first time. Well unless its Nick, he freaking welded like a pro the other week. I tried throwing all sorts of curve balls in our little session and he is a natural. Anyways... Oh so Jeff with the trailer, he is building one of the micro cabin on wheels to live in. Pretty dope, almost all his materials he has gotten for free or cheap. At any rate that took up Sat, and we chilled with the fam on the Lords resurrection memorial day thingy.

Now to the good stuff.

Well at least that'll give you two sets of hands to help you now. So make for good progress.

:clap:Hahaha For sure, Nick always helps out we alternate vehicles. I say that but of corse there is way more work do to on mine then his haha so I get the lucky end of the stick. And yea, jeff said he owes me, I will pick a real dirty job to call him out for that one lol j/k

Getting behind in posting, next week the wife is gone on vacation so I am hoping to get her on the road then. We have a turkey hunt coming up next weekend for 4 days and I would love to take to boat if I get her done.

So before I laid the sub floor I decided to do the 2 wheel low modification. I also wanted to insulate over my transmission.

From up top like this it was pretty easy, I just used a angle grinder with cut off wheel and zipped her off.

On to the sub floor

I got a little more done then the pictures show and then I ran out of glue :o

This stuff is low e the stuff up front is concrete insulation its foam aluminum foam. to help with sound and heat. The rest is thinner and its alum foam alum.

I also got to the shackles last week, finally re made those and painted them.

I wanted to hear what the exhaust was like, remember its just temporary.

Sorry I never answered the Q about the VW tank Its 10-12 gallons. but I think I only get maybe 8 useful gallons out of it. I have my pickup a little ways off the bottom, and my fill is level with the top.

I also got my spacers on, you may notice that in future pictures. I am also trying to track down a 5th rim for my spare tire I have laying around the house. It was super tough finding those 4 so we will see. I want to find those and look at some new seats at p&p this weekend.

I also hope to finish the flooring, and I am super super stoked for what I am going to be doing to the rear wheel wells! stay tuned, I hope it turns out as well as it looks in my head hahaha.

Anybody have any grand thoughts on flooring? I have been over and over it, just can't find something I like. I don't want vinyl, I don't want carpet, I really don't mind a thick rubber matt in the back but what about the front? I will try and swing by some commercial places today and see what they have.

Thats a lot to do in one weekend, my mom just called me and told me 30 head of elk are in our field at least 3 bulls and non of them have antlers, they have been dropping them the past few weeks. So since I didn't get my elk this year I will spend tomorrow running around in the woods looking for some racks just for fun.

Its been too long! I have to get this thing done!... or at least camping ready.

OK cool, maybe I will just weld it on then. I though it you overfill it would just squeeze out the splines. But I guess on the first hard bump that would be a ton of pressure.

If you do that, maybe drill a little relief hole in the plug.

That exhaust is awesome. I'm jelly.

Looking forward to more pictures!

Snow, Nice build you have going. For the cargo area I'm probably gonna run to the farm supply and grab a horse stall mat. For the front I'm going back with carpet. They are about 1/2' thick and can take quite a bit of abuse.

Good luck on the horn hunting!

Thanks, I went to our farm supply and picked up 17' of 1/4 inch stall matting its 4 foot wide. Worked perfect! they had 3/8s by the foot but this stuff seems thicker then its advertised. It was aprox 5' across three times and enough for my rear hatch to. I need a little more for my wheel wells though. Pics coming soon.

I took my pup out sheding with me and right off the bat we saw this

shavings on the ground, all somewhat odd for this time of the year. I thought for sure along the edge of the field where they get nervous there would be some, but 2 minutes later we ran into about 5 and I had my dog. so we back tracked and went the other way only to run into a bunch more. So I called it a day, didnt want to harass them this time of year. :grinpimp:

What type of steel did you use for the shackles, I love it

Sent from my apple IIe using msdos

Just regular cold or hot rolled steel, I dont remember which it was. They are 3/8s by 2 1/4 I origanaly had them 2" but I remade them and the yard only had 2.25" which I actually like the look of more now.

finishing the under layer as mentioned above I went with rubber so most of this was kind of a waste but I can always just pull the rubber out and run carpet later. It comes out easy.

Then I got tired of my beer getting warm all the time, I drink slow when I am working.

so I discovered a case of low speed death wobble with her a few weeks ago like 5 mph and again around 30 but it always corrected its self, very minor. so I went to pull my shims I had guessed on from the beginning that I would need. pulling them would give me 5 degree caster approx, took her for a spin GOOD GOD tire chirping dw. Around maybe 15 mph. I had already tightened everything up so I went to check toe and it was toe out a 1/4 ish inch. Went toe in 1/4 inch because thats what was on the top of my head and the dw was still there. I also saw my drag link/relay rod/steering arm or whatever the proper term for it on this rig is was bent. So I grabbed my spare and put it on and set the toe (all at the same time) to 1/8 inch in. And bingo, seems to be fine now. I dont know if the toe was the biggest thing (other then going from 1 degree to 5 degree caster) or the relay rod. It does not help that those big ass bias play tires want to throw it into dw right off the get go.

Anyways, glad thats over, if it starts up again I am getting rid of all that caster and going to 3 or back to 1.

On to the flooring!

This stuff turned out so nice, lays real flat and will look super clean once everything is back in. It was a :censor: so cut though, I used tin snips or sheers. but a real real good pair of scissor shears would be best. Even with me shaving sharp knife is was to much work.

no smell yet, but I will pull in out and run some vinegar over it and let it sit in the sun for a few weeks if it starts smelling.

Today after fixing the dw (this is all out of order I think haha) I was about to go home but decided to mount my sway bar with "semi quick" disconnects. Even with those stiff shocks all around there is so much travel this thing can roll into some of those long corners. Easy enough to make, and easy enough to take off, 17$ for the parts. Couldn't think of a better way, didnt spend any time brain storming cuz the dw took all of that away the last couple days. So this was what I came up with while at McLendons
