Reminds me of what a certain shipping company did to me.. They charged me an additional heavy surprise-fee at the country of destination knowing I could only take legal action against them back in the original country I'd just left (where the shipping contract had been entered into).

Your powerless to fight them... and it is immensely frustrating.

I know how you feel CW.

I had the same bull**** with my personal effects container here. I thought I had paid for door to door but they wanted almost what it cost to get it half way around the world to get the last 200km. I refused to pay for the delivery and got it picked up by onother company for a fifth of what they were demanding.
They have your stuff for ransome and it's hard not to just pay to get the stuff home.

Sorry to hear about your shipping misfortune... I'm hoping they get it to you before you need to go back to work- partly because I'm looking forward to pictures!

Yeah its not looking good so far, CBSA still has it and they are back logged because of the holidays. I don't know how long it will take for them to finally open it up and inspect it. After they are done it will be 5 days to ship it to Vancouver. I will get it eventually but man its taking forever.

It will be worth it once you see it :)

Well I'm not going to worry about things I can't change and I will focus on carrying on with my sheet metal work.
I got the windshield frame back from the sand blaster and although it looked to be in remarkable condition it also had some small holes and perforation. I decided to start welding them shut yesterday. It's not that easy with my welder because it's on the big side and I'm running .035 wire when I should be running .024 wire, I guess that's why they made grinders. All in all as far as landcruiser windshield frames go this is as close to perfect as they come, the bottom rail is in perfect condition which is rare.

I once had a visit to Ben who was a cruiser parts guy and he had an 84 bj sitting on his property, the thing was completely rusted from bottom to top ! places that would be clean even had rust ! I think it was a salt mine truck or something ! For me that still haunts me seeing that ol thing ! lol
from then on I would wash then oil spray my 83bj42 then stick my hand in a tub of grease and smear grease everywhere. It didn't look good but in the spring she was ok. I guess that was a little extreme ! the years after I oil sprayed it then washed and sprayed wax at the car wash. it's not bad today but I ended up redoing her in stainless in 1995 She's still good today after 10 years of wheeling.
There are no regrets going stainless you'll LOVE IT !
Cheers !

Thanks Mac, I agree with you. I use the fluid film penetrating oil(fogging oil) to get into the door seams and nooks and crannies.it smells terrible for about two days then it's gone but it work really well. Just talked to Ship Co. Today and she is hoping that they will release the box on Wednesday and it will be 10 days instead of 5 now by train to Vancouver. I questioned her about CBSA charging for a container inspection because I have near heard of that. I have a buddy at CBSA looking into that for me.

Fluid Film is one of my favorite things in a can , next to Aero Kroil penetrant . I intend to get a gallon and their fogging sprayer and start coating the underside of my new to me pickup - I really hate rust .
Wonder if anyone has tried heating the stuff prior to spraying - maybe to 120*F or so ??

Hope they stop screwing around with your tub , or I'm gonna have to come up there fix the situation myself - been waiting too long to see it get built ...aarrgghhh.

I hear you Sarge, I just had email confirmation this morning 5 hat the box has been released and is now back at the terminal waiting to be loaded onto a train. I should have it in about 10 days. Having said that I'm flat our working for two weeks straight but I will be in Vancouver on my last day and I should be able to pick it up then with out incurring extra ferry costs.
I also replied to the representative from ShipCo. email notice informing me that customs will issue another invoice for the inspection, my reply to her was that customs doesn't charge for inspections, she said "well they're not going to do it for free" to which I replied that "yes it is free because that's their job and they get paid by the government". I also informed her that I have contacted Canada Border Services Agency (customs) and they informed me that they Do NOT charge for inspections. Since then I haven't heard anything else about it.

Glad to hear you are getting close to having that tub..

You need any items for the build, hose kits etc give me a call and I will try and help you out, I only live about 15 minutes away from you;)

Cheers

Interesting...

Makes me wonder if there isn't some form of corruption/dishonesty going on there..

I think it would be a good idea to include the cost of border checks in fines when people are convicted of smuggling or of "understating the value of goods" (for import duty/taxes) but charging importers for "random/routine checks" is an entirely different matter..

I'm sure it happens, HA's have several members working at each container port and corruption is evident.
I just got an invoice from ShipCo for $154.00 that I will have to pay before they will release the tub. No matter I will have it within 2 weeks.

If that happened here , and it does happen , I'd pay someone a visit or have some of my "friends" take care of it . I'm truly surprised Canada allows this to happen as they have a lot of good control regulations on industry to protect their citizens .
Hope it arrives soon , or I'm gonna have to get a passport and go find it myself , lol .
