Hello all, just joined the board and the family of land cruiser owners.

Need some advice. I bought a 1977 BJ40 which is being shipped from Costa Rica.

Is there anything I need to do, like change the coolant to anti freeze? Anything else?

Where is the best place to get it looked over for safety, Toyota dealer?

Can't seem to find manuals for the B engine or BJ40, anyone know a website?

Anone installed AC on a BJ40? If so, what did you install and does it work well?

I appreciate everyone's help and patience. I am sure I will have a million questions.

Use anti freeze ... Yes... It's probably just water

Do not bother with dealer... Find a local cruiser club or cruiser head they will know more

You can find manual here: For Sale: - 40, 50, 60, and 80 series FSM for a hell of a price.

There are lots of ac threads ... Vintage air ... Oem ... Several

Hope that helps

Welcome to mud!!

Pics of the cruiser? We love pics

Thank you, that is very helpful.

I'm in the process of bringing one up as well. How far along are you in the title/shipping process?

Ships on Friday. I am working with a guy that has been really good about everything. All the paperwork is done, ready to go.

Very nice. Hoping I won't be too far behind.

Yeah, waiting is no fun. Have you brought one up from CR before? I read differing opinions on it.

Brian said that because... Your missing the center cowl vent down tubes... When it rains it's coming right in :)

Good eye Johnny! I missed that one.

Anything else you need to know about ya cruiser just ask :)

Original... Not original ... Things that need improvement ... We see things most people are clueless about :)

Don't take however what a lot of us say as picking on ya... We all want to see the trucks cared for :)

We are here to help ... Just like a great big dysfunctional family lol

I would do a routine maintenance:

1) Most important is to check front and rear brake shoes for wear and any noticeable fluid leaks
2) Oil and filter
3) Diesel fuel filter
4) Air filter
5) Remove old cooling fluid and replace with anti-freeze
6) Check brake fluid if it looks dirty change it
7) Check oil levels and the quality of transmission, transfer case and both differentials

The reason for the long list above is because you just don't know what the PO previous owner has done in regards to regular maintenance.

Then drive and enjoy your new Land Cruiser!

Nice looking 40 for sure... Love that color! Hope you get it soon and start enjoying it. Waiting is the worst part. I only bought mine out of Texas and had to wait a few days... Cannot imagine waiting while that thing clears customs etc... Good Luck! You are definitely in the right place for questions also. Ask away, I have not ever seen this group stumped for sure... :)

a few things ...
airconditioning : remove roof and doors and step on gas peddle !
Change all oils belts and filters, grease front hubs and record the date.
Get your self some ant-seize for when you remove a bolt your can put it back correctly.
with stock tires and the B motor you should get 600km ( not sure what that is in miles ) per tank.
With a soft top you will get the best highway miles. If you are finding you are not getting good milage per tank of fuel then you may have to replace your injectors.
For diesel questions go to the diesel part of the forum !
Cheers and welcome to the madness !
