I haven't been on for a few years, but here are some of the pics that I took while I built up the cruiser in a small mountain town, San Jose de Las Matas, Dominican Republic. It was built with hand tools, arc welder, hand drill, and angle grinder. Did not have access to my tools or machines here in the states, also had to ship all the parts done there. I built it to be a functional off-roader, when I get back down there in a few months I will start on the aesthetics and a few changes. I want to thank all the guys that answered my questions and gave me the ideas.
Mods: Aussie locked rear, 4" hell creek lift, 37" hummer tires on 16.5 steel wheels, disk brakes all around, T100 brake booster and pump, 2H diesel swap, 4 sp manual gear box, 8000 lb Xrc winch, custom winch mount, custom bumber, homemade hitch, HID lights, HID Spot lights, CB, power steering, truck battery + homemade box, snorkel from a fj80, "custom" big rig exhaust setup through a glass pack, spare carrier, adapted and waterproofed air filter off a tractor, PA speaker, strobes, and some other things I can't remember at the moment.
It is a bit ugly, but works and rides great. I have not had any problems with the bolt on brakes, the cage is not structural ( I was playing around with scrap pipes and left it on to carry some wood), would not pass inspection in the states but where It is located I don't have to worry about such things
, and the "cheap" winch is actually pretty good, although slow.
The thing works! I have pulled stuck trucks out the mud, pulled and winched trees and stumps, carried 55 gallon drums of pesticide to spray, been mudding, crawling, and tried the snorkel out through a few rivers. let me tell you If you ever visit a third world country you well see things that are crazy, inspiring, and at times just bat sh-- crazy. You don't need a garage full of tools and experience to go out and build something, just research and try.
