thanks guys for all the comments.. Yes Dave you're definetely welcome any time! I did the last of the trimming a few days ago but forgot my camera, it looks great though, very "high and tight" and I really like the look of a trimmed up 55.. I am trying to figure out the rear frame, either fab one up from scratch and maybe use 2x2 x 1/4" steel, or reuse the stock rear frame, I dunno.. I have quite a bit more work to the body as well.. I have been attempting to sell a Ford Van for sometime for cash, I still owe about a G to the transmission shop so I can't pick it up till I sell the van. So the next step after that is to start putting in the engine and mocking up the transmission hump etc, but I have enough work to do on the body before then regardless. I also sort of need $$ to buy a heater system if I do end up going that way, but truth is I am not starting to think perhaps just no AC, though it would be a bummer because I am here right now...

Anyway.. I'll be at the shop tonight again so more pics shortly.. :) Andre

Hey thanks man... I did trim up the rest and it looks great but left camera at home, sorry.. Anywhoo, I figured out what I am going to do with the rear frame, which I'm hoping to bang out this week.. Also, we are going to move to a bigger shop on the 1st that belongs to a friend of mine that has some neat stuff.. We installed a turbo into Damon's BJ42 on thurs so that took up a lot of time.. So been busy, but not actual work busy on this cruiser at least..

OK more updates as promised.. First, I finally recycled the FJ55 frame.. Back at the same place that I recycled the 80.. I loaded down the trailer with all of the crap I have, a couple mini truck diffs etc, thought I had a good load, 1000 lbs so $30 :( Steel is $.03 a lb recycling, almost $1.50 a lb when you buy it at the store :(

Also my buddy Jake who is a lurker here (s*** Jake don't even know your handle  ) has been helping me out here and there, he has this mean 55 seen below, a SUA 4" lift with 38s and trimmed up fender wells.. Chevy 350 (real mean loud sounding one, SM465 to a 203 to stock 3 or 4 speed (can't remmeber) t case... He also bought a rear tire holder from Iron Pig Off Road that is pretty killer that we welded onto a rear swingout that he had fabbed up earlier...

Here is more schmeg from inside the body here, more rust & rot.. You can also see how I trimmed everything out.. Again with a level and my angle finder when I needed angles...

More... I basically used a level once I did the outer trimming to get the inner to match up.. But I went about a 1/4" lower on the inside so the bottoms will bevel one I cap the bottom of the trimouts.. First however, even though its not unbelieveablly rust, is to get the body sandblasted so this is the last I will touch it back here for a little while until I am finally ready to have the body sand blasted...

Final product.. And tonight I start working on the frame.. Again I am very pysched with how it all turned out, I love to look of a trimmed up FJ55 particularly in the rear, I feel like its a little more "sporty" or something like that I suppose :grinpimp:

Very cool, very cool....

Keep up the good mandinga

thanks guys and thanks Ridge runner.. The big 28 :) Anyway, here are some long promised updates.. Sorry there are a lot of photos here.. I am about half done I figure, I have another good night of wrenching tonight so hopefully I'll have some good updates for this tomorrow..

First this is what I started out with, about a 15' or so long piece of 4 x 2 steel about a 1/4" thick... Went over to a friends shop to use his band saw.. I also had some 4 x 2 by 1/8" thick that I used for the frame, the rest is going to be for the rear bumper / sliders setup.. I figured thinner for the frame because it will actually hit less rocks so I figured the heavier stuff for the rear bumper, specifically for towing, and for the sliders so it won't get dinged up. Downfall is it is heavy.. This stuff was all free from Trent Taylor, a guy in our club who had it lying around.. A couple hundred in steel I figure (thanks Trent!), it is surface rusty but that will all be cleaned up with sand blasting again...

Second pic you can see the mockup of how I sort of plan to do the bumper / sliders.. Strangely havn;t been able to get my thought off of it the last few days.. In the end they will be connected, so one big slider/bumper combo. It will be heavy and a pita but clean and strong I think.. And bolt on, not welded on even though weld is probably easier to put on the actual truck..

Before I could mock up rear frame particularly I had to get the frame level again.. I could / wanted to use jack stands but didn't have any long enough to reach the frame I got the axles under jack stands so I actually used ratcheting straps to lower the whole frame and was able to get the whole thing level and lowered by about 3" easily.. You can see in background of frame mockup pic the ratcheting straps around the rear axle to a frame crossmember...

Second pic shows the front axle with the ratcheting straps. The axles themselves are still super clean, rig had to be outside in the rain a few times while we were installing a turbo on Damon's BJ42 last week (one of the big reasons progress has been slow on the rig lately)...
