hey guys!
as many of you know, bill retired from making his ps pump and box mounting bracket kits a few months ago. i ended up working out a deal with bill and i now produce/sell the brackets.
the ps pump brackets have been available for some time now, but i'm still waiting to finalize the ps box pedestal kit.
i've had quite a few orders from fellow mudders as well as lots of pms and questions about installs and applications/possible conversion issues.
i have recently had the chance to install the ps pump mounting kit on two fj40s; a 1970 and a 1977. the 70 has a 2F with the alternator on the passenger side, the 77 has the oriinal 2 engine and all the oem accs in the oem locations, including the smog pump. both setups worked out very well. there have been quite a few questions about the bracket working with the smog pump. i had only heard that it worked and now i know for sure. the answer is "yes".
attached are a few pics, i will post up more details, part #s and measurements in the next couple of days.
thanks again for all the support!!!! and thanks once more to bill for letting me take the reigns and keep making these parts; we need them for our rigs!

ps: the pics below are from the 77 fj40 with the smog pump. at the time the pics were taken, i had just finished installing and adjusting the ps pump. the alternator belt and most of the smog equipment was'nt installed yet. i finished the installation of the missing parts today and test drove the cruiser. everything worked very well no belt squealing or any other issues.

Nice!

What would you say is the # of degrees the belt makes contact with the PS pulley?

i'd say roughly 130 degs wih the smog pump, about 140 without the smog pump. i'll measure it on monday when i get back to the shop. both cruisers are still there so that won't be a problem at all.

Thats great news Georg. I bought a set from you, and havent rounded up all of the parts yet. Iwas worried about the smog pump, so this clears the air. Do you have a part # on the belt you ended up using?

the cruiser in the pics above came in for work other than the ps conversion. somebody else had tried to get it to pass smog but they did'nt know what they were doing. it had a combination of federal and CA smog equipment on it, and most of it was not hooked up correctly. so i removed everything to start over fresh. when i opened the hood i saw that the ps conversion was pretty much cobbled together as well with a combination of brackets and nothing lined up very well. the owner of the 40 is a good friend of mine and i owed him a favor so i decided top use his truck as the "guinea pig" for the dorry brackets. i wanted to do a ps conversion on a cruiser that required all the smog equipment to be intact in order to come up with a definite answer about the setup working with the smog pump.:wrench:
once i saw the bad bracketry, i decided that this was the perfect candidate for the setup. i did'nt even call my customer to tell him what i was doing until after i finished the job. needless to say he was'nt too upset about the mods, especially since it was a freebie.
here are a couple of before pics of the same truck.

thanks!

i have the part # for the belt and the other measurements at the shop. i will post up all the details on monday evening when i get back from work. i tried to locate the smog pump as far outboard as possible to get the most belt wrap and then used the ps pump to tighten the belt.

some more info for you guys. if you're doing this type of ps conversion in a cruiser with NO smog pump and the narrow rear pulley, then a gates #7475 belt works great. generic # is 11a1205 so it's a 20.5" belt.

here are a few pics of one i just installed:

for cruisers WITH a smog pump and the narrow rear pulley, you can run a gates #7495 belt, generic # 11a1225 so it's a 22.5" belt.

i have heard talk that this type of ps bracket does not work in a cruiser with a smog pump and wanted to put one together myself. well, myth BUSTED! it works perfect. i have driven the cruiser for about 20 miles now and the steering works great.

here are a few pics of the rig and install:

I cant wait until the PS box mounts are available again. I will definetly be getting one of them.

From the looks of it, and I know it was said before by Bill, No way to make this pump work with the Factory F air cleaner without mods. I have my alternator where the smpg pump is right now.

Assume I will have to put the pump on passenger side and have a few long lines since I would need it to mount way low. Not a big deal, just don't want to mod the air box.

Good job Georg

But did it pass Smog:D:lol:

thanks guys.
i know that this bracket will not work with the earlier air cleaners, but maybe i can look into modifying one to lower the pump considerably. i guess i need to find another victim; an early cruiser with the stock air cleaner.
some people use the smog pump bracket and modify it to work with the ps pump. i'm not a big fan of that setup so let me see what i can come up with. but please don't hold your breath on this one; i have 3 major project cruisers that need to be done by rubithon.........

not yet. i still need to install the carb cooling fan and a new set of TREs before it's off to the smog shop. this rig has been passed around from shop to shop and nobody really knew what they were doing. it had some CA smog components from different years and nothing was hooked up properly. it's a federal vehicle so i aquired all the proper federal smog components and installed them along with running all new vacuum lines. seems to run and drive quite well. so i'll keep my fingers crossed.

thanks for the orders guys!!!!!

Great work, Georg. I have the Dorry psp bracket and wondered if there wasn't any more secure method of anchoring/stabilizing the rear of the pump except for the lone stud on the inboard bottom. Although I didn't like the headbolt mount style psp bracket I installed initially, I liked how it cradled the pump and made for easy tension adjustments.

Any thoughts?

On my Dorry install, there's precious little forward room to manuver, as the belt lines up perfectly with only a thin washer between the pump back and the bracket.

i was a little concerned about pump/mount sturdiness at first but having installed a few, i have seen absolutely no need to beef up the design or add another bracket. there are no vibration issues with this setup and afaic, the ease of adjustment is excellent.

i tried to "wiggle" the last pump i installed and instead of getting any movement out of the pump or brackettry, i got the entire chassis to move. so i think we're ok. lol

problem is that the 3B and 13Bt are so few and far between down this way. i just finished a 13BT/h55f swap into an fj60 and the engine came with the factory ps pump and bracket,. worked out pretty well.

well, i have a bj42 scheduled to be at the shop in 3 weeks, will be here for a couple of weeks getting some work done. i'll see if i can come up with something.;)
