This is not tech, but since it is a '60 I am working on, I figured I'd toss it out here until the moderators take it down. ;)

I had a local supplier fall down bad and after special ordering an engine kit and paying $200 for expidited shipping, the parts arrived without the main bearings! Normally I work with enough lead time that I don't have to order parts this way and it is no big deal when there is a hiccup in delivery. But this time that was not the case. My supplier told me... "they should be here in no more than another week or so".

That was not going to work.

I got a hold of Justin at CruiserParts yesterday as he was shuitting down for the day. Like about 7 minutes before 5pm. And I guess today was a scheduled day off for them. He took my order, checked with James and was told, "yes"... Order taken and dropped off with UPS on the way home I guess. I had to pay a bit for superfastestbestest shipping of course. But all they hit me for was the UPS charges.

Ordered at COB, 5PM in New Hampshire yesterday... I had the parts in my greasy hands by COB, 5pm Alaska time today.

Maybe not an actual saving of the world. But as they were getting ready to go home, Justin took the order, actually laid hands on the part, verified with me that it was what I needed, got it packaged and delivered to UPS before going home. He could have said, it wil go out in two days. But he went the extra mile.

And UPS actually got it through at least 3, maybe 4 air facilities... not to mention the actual beginning and end points of their system... and in my hands by COB my time.

A far cry from trains, sailing ships and dogsleds. ;)

It would be wise for the Moderators to allow this post to exist, as I’m assured they will, so that we, as avid enthusiasts can reward the dedicated suppliers, restorers and mechanical genii of our obsession. My thanks to Mark of the Greatland for sharing his very positive experience and a job well done to Justin & James.
 
I concur, the great ones should be applauded and I have my own list. After all, the bad ones have their own dedicated thread, which is smart as the mods have one place to, well, moderate.

I don’t believe I’ve ordered from Cruiser Parts, but posts like this make me consider them more readily.
 
Now, now, folks. Let's not turn this into a trashfest.

I've dealt with some of the biggest demigod vendors on this forum and had next to fraudulent experiences. It's every man for himself here.
 
Cruiser parts do pick up the phone. They helped me with my 2h rebuild needs. Albeit, I had one hickup, but twasn't them, was their supplier
 
I have been working on Cruisers professionally for about 30 years now. I have known and done business with all of the old time vendors via mail, phone and internet and a few face to face meetings. Too many new guys out there now for me to make the same claim about them.

I could probably recall a negative experience or slip up or two over the years with every single one of them. It happens. And everybody shares it and bitches and runs them down over it. I'm no different, but as I have aged (kinda like a gallon of whole milk ages when you leave it in the back of the rig by mistake) I have tried to keep things in perspective and remind myself that I can screw up too and that someone might have differing expectations in a situation than I do. Communications failures can also account for a lot of things that we all rush to bitch about.

Yep, some people are worthless pieces of fecal matter (bet that slips by the censor bots ;) ). Sometimes people screw up inexcusably. And sometimes it is just a thing that happens and you deal with it and move on. Might call for some strong words... might just be a shrug and a "do better next time, okay". Most often, the issue is made right and everyone walks away satisfied. Whether it is in business dealings or relationships or driving down the road sometimes people get it wrong. It is how they handle it afterwards that matters. And how you handle it when someone screws up makes a big difference in the final outcome as well.


But sometimes people get it right too. And if you are willing to call people out when they screw up (I most certainly still am. I will never outgrow that I am afraid), then you should be as willing to point them out when they exceed the norm.

James and his guy(s) got it right for me. It was appreciated and merited acknowledgement. Doing so cost me nothing and hopefully gains them something. Hard to knock that balance sheet.

I'll probably not comment any more here to avoid it wandering/growing and making Woody or whoever else is helping run the show move this from the tech section and pigeonhole it in the ether somewhere else.

Reality is it’s easy to find fault and lay a complaint. In my line of work faults get noticed and
exceptional output is ignored. I tend to compliment when least expected because it’s value
is appreciated. I won’t let past experience with this or any vendor cloud the positivity of a well earned
compliment. The gentleman earned his due. Good on Mark for making the post.

I've ordered parts from Cruiser Parts several times. There was never an issue. I'll order from them again when the time comes.
