BFG NITTO or TOYO

Just picked up a nice 03 Galaxy Grey. Plan to run a 2.5 OME with 285 65 18's. I run 33 BFG Mud's on my 60 and love them.. But the overall ride is a little tough. I want to run an AT on the 100 to keep the ride nice n plush. I see that BFG's are the standard for this but how about the others? I need some advice.

I replaced my BFGs two weeks ago. Went with the new Toyo Open Country AT 2. I've noticed a BIG improvement in ride quality. Very quiet, also. The KOs had 60k and looked like they could go another year easily. Lots of info in the Tire and Wheel tech thread.

I just bought a 2006 this week to supplement my built up 1996. Having the Nittos installed today, which are 285/65's. My brother and his buddy have them on their Dodge Ram rigs and love them. I'm historically a BFG guy (have 35 inch BFG MTs on my 96). They also get good reviews here on MUD and other sites. I also emailed Christo Slee to confirm max tire to put on a bone stock 100, and he said 33" max. Will post a pic later today when I pick her up.

BFGs have lots of fans. But it's an older tread design.

IMO the Terra Grapplers do everything the BFGs do, but a little bit better. And they seem to be the least expensive of the three.

Duratracs will be the most aggressive offroad, and are probably the best in the snow. When I purchased in the fall they were the most expensive, so I didn't get them despite being my first choice.

I've said it over and over.... BFG's sling SB2 gravel worse than any other tire ever produced due to the shape of their tread design. Especially when they are new.

This reason alone by itself is plenty for me to never own another set. Ive had them on a 2 door tahoe and a 3/4 ton dodge diesel and almost ruined a boat because of it.

I went for BFG's with my '06 since it came with 18" wheels. I had 285 GY Duratrac's on my 4runner and LOVED those tires. Awesome in the snow, mud, dirt, anything I threw at them. Very aggressive tread design and look mean as hell. They didn't have the 285 size in the Duratrac's (with 18" rim size) so I went with BFG's. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the tires you mentioned but I lean towards BFG's. Terra Grapplers are great too.

Everyone goes with BFG AT's. Get them in 295/75/16 if you do. It's a true 33". Otherwise try out the new Toyo Open Country AT2's.

TOYO. Had nearly every tire brand out there. Nothing wrong the GY or Nitto, had them both in several models, but IMHO Toyo is superior across the board. I've been running the AT2 for awhile now after running the MT on my last two rigs and they are great tires that handle the snow, the trail and the road well. Haven't tried them in the rocks yet. They are quiet and seem to wearing well. I'm not sure you can count the Duratrac as a true AT. It's bordering on being a high void almost MT like tire. For an MT, I will never run anything other than the Toyo MT, unless someone comes out with something better. They are little more expensive, maybe $50 a tire, and I think that is why most people shy away from them.

They make a 295/65-18 in the Duratrac but I was afraid I wouldn't get my spare to fit after reading some posts, so I stuck with the 285 BFG. Love this tire.

Let's see the pic. I want to go to 285's but have no lift. Interested in seeing how they look. Is there a noticeable difference in snow performance going with the bigger, wider tires?

BFG for me. Solid performer in snow. Nitto TG's weren't that confidence inspiring. I may try the GY DT's next time.

My cruiser came with 2 Toyo open countrys (dealer put them on to pass inspection) and I bought 2 more last week... waiting for them to come fed ex. I like mine... and they are very quiet.

275/75/18 cooper st maxx. Came from ntgs, these are much more aggressive tires that ride awesome and nice and quiet. No lift just the front t bars cranked a bit. They are a commercial traction tire so I only assume they will be good in the snow.
