275/75/18 cooper st maxx. Came from ntgs, these are much more aggressive tires that ride awesome and nice and quiet. No lift just the front t bars cranked a bit. They are a commercial traction tire so I only assume they will be good in the snow.
I have duratracs too. This is going to be my very first negative post about them. Before I go there, I will say they are very confidence inspiring, and absolutely amazing in the snow/ice and wet traction. The reason I'm not buying again is because as they wear, they grow very loud over time. They started with just a slight hum, but now I'm growing very tired of it, and it's getting louder and louder. They've got lots of tread on them still (about 45-50%) after 40k miles.
I've decided not to go so aggressive for my next set. My cruiser doesn't do enough offroading to warrant them. Yeah, they look good, but if you want comfort/quietness, you'll be disappointed.
Had toyo mts, they were ok but extremely heavy with their commercial tow rating. Friend has duratracs and loves em. My hundy came with 295 18" nitto trails and they are f'n awesome. If they last as long as the toyo mts I'll stick w em. I like the looks of the nittos/toyos better than the GY but that's about it. I don't really think you can go wrong with any of these options.
I have 295 18" nitto trails, with 2.5 ome lift. There is the tiniest bit of rub on the little bubbled out spot on the back of the inside of the fender. Instead of taking the sawzaw to em, I am fine with just letting the brand new tires wear down a bit...
They are a heavy E rated tire. With that in mind they are far quieter than my worn NTGs had gotten. They only have around 5k on them and are wearing very little and still pretty quiet. IMO I would say pretty on par with the noise a BFGAT puts out (had a couple of sets on my 4runner). They ride awesome, however I installed billies at the same time so I really have no frame of reference as my OEMs were worn.
I have Nitto Trails...285x65x18 and no rubbing unless I do a locked left turn and then just barely. No need for cutting and no rubbing under normal driving situations.
I've said it over and over.... BFG's sling SB2 gravel worse than any other tire ever produced. I've had them on a 2 door tahoe and a 3/4 ton dodge diesel and almost ruined a boat because of them.
I ruined an Audi with them My friend had been following behind me and within less than half a mile the BFG's sunk three penny sized rock dents into his windshield. He was not too pleased haha.
OP, I had the Toyo Open Country At's. They were good tires all round, but they were at the wear bars after 15,000 miles.. I read Spressomon had the same issue. I would recommend the BFG's or Duratracs. I haven't tried the Nitto TG's but Nitto is owned by Toyo, so I've seen complaints about shorter tread life on the TG's as well.
I put Toyo ATII on mine about 7k miles ago. I was looking at the Nitto but consistently heard the were a 30k mile tire. The Toyo has a 65k written warranty vs 0 for most of the rest of the AT world. If I can get 50-55k I would be happy. I vote warranty with a good looking and smooth riding tire.
I have run Bridgestone revo 2 285s for 2 sets first set 90k and changed second set at75k (I paid around $1200 per set). Love the tire performance and durability... Very quiet
I am currently running nitto terra grappler 295s I have 5k on them right now and have been pleased. Considering that they were $880 out the door, I am willing to accept a little bit more road noise.
Without knowing how the nittos will perform long term, I think that the cost difference would make it worth while to go with nittos.
295/75/16 Toyos with Slee rear ( no swing outs) and sliders as the only added weight. I've put about 3,000 miles on them without a complaint. Yes they are heavy "E" rated tires, but still drive and handle better than my "D"rated KOs. Priced better, with the 50k mile guarantee.
And No, they are not the same as the Nitto Terra Grapplers.
I just got a quote for 315 BFG KM-2's and it came out to nearly $1,800...am I crazy, or is the shop crazy? I know these things are expensive, but I can't justify almost 2K worth of tires. GoodYear MTR Kevlar looks like a worthy alternative.
