I work up at Mt Bachelor Mt. Bachelor Ski Resort - Mt Bachelor

I drove the cruiser up today12/29/08, It was a blizzard up there, three foot drifts in the parking lot. When I left at 4:30pm there were stuck carsand trucks all over the lot. The Parking Managers truck was down and out so I got busy with the snatch strap. I have these brand new BFG ATs...I drove all over the lot pulling folks out with a snatch strap. It was incredible how those ATs dug in and pulled. snatched Honda, Sicon, Excursion, Explorer, Audi, Crysler mini van, F150. Was in 4 low while fooling around snatching folks out. Shifted back to what I thought was 4 hi and headed for home, turned out I was in 2 hi...drove 22 miles in deep snow thinking I was in 4X4..(didn't notice the green light was out, duh) cruised on home in 2 hi in total ignorance but didn't slip, slide
or nothing. Great rig, great tires. didn't have a camera so no pics of the deeds, However the attached photo was taken Christmass Eve 2008 in driveway with 6" or so fresh on my just cleared drive, hard to keep up when it snows 24/7 for 5 days or so...

Snatched with the strap on my ARB and I backed up so I could watch and if the fools came out and hit me they'd just mar the paint on the ARB and not wreck my rig.

just a snow story..

Yeah....I've read where plenty of guys who live and work in the snow areas....have confidence in the BFG AT tires. We're lucky if we get just a little snow where I live.

Looks like fun.... I guess you need a 4*4 just to get around.

MT's not so bad either...

I love my BFG AT's! I did the same thing last week when we got 2 feet in 3 days. I'd drive around town, drifting all the way, looking for people to pull out. It always feels good to help someone in need.

BFG MTRs are the WORST "snow" tires I've ever had. Got stuck in my driveway with a brand new set of 33X10.5s after a wet September snow a couple years ago. Had 'em siped & they improved a great deal. But I'll never buy another set for winter use. Wish I'd known about ATs (but they don't look as cool)...

I'll second that MTs don't work in snow unless siped.

On a different note, I added a Subaru Outback to the car collection when gas prices were high. I put some new hi-tech studless snow tires on it and all i can say is wow! While we didn't get as much snow here around Corvallis as Portland and Seattle did, we did get a fair amount. I drive 30+ miles to work each way and the thing was like being on rails. I hate to say this, but considerably better than my FJ60 or FJ40 ever did. And I really do hate to say it...

I'm definetely a BFG AT disciple. Just bought my second set (in 35" this time, yippee!).

I hate to say it to. Our Outback flat out kicks tail in the snow. And we run siped all-season tires through the winter.

The new studless tires are great. I have Blizzaks on my Pontiac and I drive it until the snow is just too deep, then out comes the FJ62 for slow moving snow wheeling to get to work.

I'm glad I saw this thread, I've wondered how the AT does in snow.

Blizzaks on the wife's minivan...We bought it last year, and it was awful in the snow...put on the blizzaks, does at least as good as my yukon or landcruiser in 4 wheel drive

On a side note. I was always told you should not tow or pull something in reverse. The gears are not as strong and you stand a greater chance of tearing up something.

bfg 33x10.50x15 TA KOs

I agree. I have three rigs with the BFGs on them. The KO rubber is softer and has much much better performance than the previous BFG TAs. The tire has (?) become very hard to find in 33x10.50x15. I recently contacted BFG and I was infromed the tire was "scheduled for production." I looked for a couple of months locally for the tire and I finally found a set for my fj40. I have run them on my 62 and loved them too. They are a fantastic all-around tire.

My wife's & my DDs are Audi S4 Quattros ('01 & '93) with snows all around: she runs high-speed Blizzacks & I have Vredesteins. The safety margin is incredible in the snow. Much rather drive either one of them in snow than our his-n-hers 60s. Much rather hit someone with a 60, though.

yes! I drove over Vernonia Hwy on Christmas Day. Between Vernonia and Scappoose it was 2-3 ft of snow and two tracks. Left it in 2wd the entire time except when I had to move over to get around the 2 trucks I encounted the entire day.

Shot at the top on hard pack. Everywhere around me trees were snapping and growning. High Def theaters got nothing on this!

i have not purchased my new tires yet i am debating on bfg muds or a/ts i think the muds have a stronger side wall witch i will want on the rocks but the a/ts have a longer wear life and cost less

I swear by my BFG AT's on my plow truck - I usually don't even have to run chains unless it is hecka deep or slick -- and when I do chain up, I usually only do the front axle. Great tires in the snow....

i'll say go for the t and a bfgs they work great year round. i've got a set on both trucks. a side note i worked for a snow plow service and all the trucks run bfgs, in missouri we have mostly packed ice and fools

Yeah I agree. but it was snowing so hard I could not see out the back window, and I figured the tires would spin before I stripped out the reverse gear. Mostly I got a pretty good run for the last three feet of strap and kinetic energy did most of the work without too much strain. If it had been Mud, 1. I would have used the Warn. 2. I would have hooked them to the rear of my rig if I had used the strap .

I was pulling a bunch of "Sallys" and feared they would get traction and run all over me or run up on the Strap so I felt the need to "keep an eye on em".

Just got bfg KM2's in 33x10.50 and they kick butt in the snow. Up against the cascade foothills here in nw washington we got over two feet and my g/f drove the cruiser down a steep 2 mile untouched road to do a home inspection for DSHS. The homeoners had been snowed in for days and couldn't believe a vehicle was coming down their driveway

Subarus are all over the place over here. All those guys were doing was scraping the windshield off and driving away. That "All Wheel" drive is really a happening thing. there was a Outback parked in the same drift that captured the Audi A4, the Outback guy motored right out.

I have used Nokia "traction" tires on several cars, like the Bizzards they are really good. I am not a believer in Studs, I am of the opinion that they are a child of the Northwest Tire consortium
More marketing than traction. Most of the folks here in Bend have two sets of tires and rims, Tire shops rack up the sales while the roads get shreaded by the studs. It's a fact that a good traction rated traction tire is just as good as a studed tire..google the test facts...

Photo of Nokias on a Volvo I just sold.
