I recently bought an 01 LX and its time to replace the tires. I love the quiet ride of the michelin ltx ms, but like the look of the revos or new rhs.

I'm almost all highway use, and do long road road trips with the family often, so want it quiet. Also recently acquired some 06 factory 18" rims.

After searching the forum and review sites I seem to have it narrowed to the revos or michelin pilot ltx or goodyear fortera silent armor. Can't seem to find quiet aggressive looking tires. Any input appreciated.

Also interested in good place for service in the Atlanta/Marieta area.

Finally, if anyone is interested I did install a Roady XT XM receiver on a panavise/pro-fit mount and I can post pics if interested.

Thanks in advance

If it's down to those 3 tires, I'd pick the Michelin, Bridgestone and Goodyear, in that order. The Michelins will give the rig a more quality look than the others, and they'll stay round until they're slick as glass. The Bridgestones are nice looking tires, but I don't have any personal experience, so I can't comment. If the Goodyears are like all other GY's I've had, they'll be square in about 20K miles and noisy as heck!

From a cost standpoint, I went with the Hankook Ventus in a 285/60-18 (also have factory 18's)(1) because a frind has a set with 75K on them and they still have a remarkable amount of tread left (he swears they're still quiet and smooth), and (2) they look g r e a t (VERY aggressive tread pattern but still nearly as quiet as my former LTX M/S's) I was somewhat dubious about Hankooks, but when I started seeing them as OEM on some new cars, I decided to give them a try........never had "ordinary" people comment on the tires on any of my vehicles, but people comment on these tires all the time! (Like you, I'm "on-pavement" 98% of the time, and I'm sure they're not off-road competent; however, they look great on a daily driver)

My opinions......................

dnp,

Love your ride without the running boards. Mine is white too. Did you ever install the pioneer head unit? I just found wiring harnesses and adapters by peripheral electronics, they are direct connect to the ven4 adapter if I understand correctly. Still concerned though as the opening is more than double din and curved in 2 planes at the top.

Anyway, are your kooks the ventu st rh06? Any chance of a picture?

The Michelin LTX M/S H-rated tires are great on my LX. For some strange reason it came stock with S-rated tires even though the sticker said H-rated. The H-rated was designed for the LX470 and it is superior to the S-rated in handling, braking, and ride - though new tires typically help the ride anyway. My wife loves the H-rated.

Consumer Reports rates Hankook tires highly.

I think you'll find most tires are quiet on the LX--it's more the vehicle than it is the tires. :D Keep in mind that switching to an AT will also lower your fuel mileage. I like the Nitto Terragrappler. They also happened to rate one of the best for noise and comfort from Consumer Reports. Get the 285/60-18.

x2

I had though on a LC, they are long wearing tires but they don't have much traction on the slick stuff. Revo's are the "it" tires

The michelin pilot ltx's came on mine. I like the tires. I have 22k on them and they still look like they will go another 10k or so.

Go with the Revos in 33". More agressive look and the taller tire improves your highway gearing. The RHS is not proven yet but looks tough with the large side blocks and is probably based on the Revos so it should be good on the road.

Larger tires lower your gas mileage. More unsprung weight, etc. I went with 265/75/16 in a AT tread, they are truck tires and are about the same size and weight as the 275/70/16's good looks, good mileage, no noticable tire noise on the highway and when you want to go off road they are AT truck tires and can handle the abuse. Plus they look good and look like the same size as stock. For his use I would suggest the Michelin AT's or BFG AT's in the 265/75/16 size. JMHO

CrusrDug, didn't you comment on the Toyo AT's being a bit harsh for your likings? Did you sort out your tire pressure?

I thought I was running 35psi and it was closer to 40. Les Schwab filled them to the incorrect pressure and told me otherwise. I never checked myself figuring they knew what they were doing. It's not as bad aired down to 35psi. These tires from what I can figure off the specs are about 11lbs heavier so I guess I should expect them to be a little harder when they bounce back off the pot holes. The guy at Schwab said it was more the mass of the tire than the load rating. He said if I went to a D load with a 285/65/18 BFG it would feel the same. I still like them a lot over stock and I think it's a happy medium.
