Additional drivetrain strain with larger tires (2 Viewers)

I was recently browsing TireRack to look for new tires and found that jumping from highway all seasons to 33 inch all terrains increases the weight by around 20 pounds at least per tire. With all this additional strain on the drivetrain I'm concerned that my 250,000 mile old transmission or diffs will implode. Does anyone have any experience with this or am I too paranoid.

It will definitely decrease acceleration and braking performance. That said, the transmissions in these 100s is darn solid compared to those in american pickemups with oversize tires that typically fail well before 200k miles.

Thanks for the reply, I was just worried since at one point my torque converter clutch popped a code after driving down a dirt washboard road. I cleared the code a few months ago and it never came back so I’m guessing it was a fluke. Nevertheless it made me worried so I figured I’d ask.
 
You can also select C rated ATs, if you aren’t going to be hitting it to hard. That will cut down on the weight considerably.
