Is there a difference between OEM and aftermarket glass company besides price Im sure? Whats the best place to get an aftermarket one?

Rob

I carried my beat to crud broken up old windshield into my local glass shop and they cut me a new one for I think around 70-80 dollars

No difference in quality Rob! (Based on my experience.)

But I didn't find much difference in price either. (OEM was very cheap here too!)

I bought OEM and was disappointed to find bubbles within the plastic-material (sandwiched between the inner and outer glass layers) on the corners.

i had one cut by local glass place out of tinted glass. it is a real lite tint but sure helped cut down on glare during the day and bright head lights at night. cost me about $130.00 installed with warranty.

cool, thanks fellas, local toyota OEM is $350, SOR is $375.....for non tinted. tinted is more.

My OEM (original one) has some wiper scratches from the PO's neglect in changing blades. Had a mobile glass co come out to my house, cut and fitted a tinted new one for $135.00 in my driveway. The original Toyota one is tinted too, BTW.

Wow! The last OEM I bought was $120, but then that was maybe 12 years ago. I called the local dealer and was quoted $342. I would go to a local auto glass shop.

I like Binswanger, life time guar. backed nationwide. Mike

there is a place called cruiser crazy listed on e-bay that is selling windshields for $99. I hope that helps

OE glass has gone through the roof. I have purchased 50+ of them over the past 10 years at $47 a pop, then I ordered one for my '81 resto to take it in the pooper for huge dough.

In fact every one I bought came in it's own shipping box that I stuffed a seal in and then shipped it out UPS. Never had one break and I had the niche there for a while as no one would ship glass. Now they are stupid $$$$ and no longer come in the box that costs more than the glass.

Shane

Use solar tint if available, do NOT use clear.

That guy and CCOT I cant stand for the fact that they state they are the first to produce something or it's exclusive to them and they are years behind, Tools!

Just saying.

Department-Parts Ralph Hayes Toyota Anderson SC

Call Rick at Ralph Hayes.

Something is dramatically wrong with the OEM quotes listed above - BJ42 is exactly the same as a 40 frame correct?

I have a brand new one I picked up from my local dealer - with 20% discount last year (have yet to install). Paid around $90 or less! Bought one from the same folks a dozen years ago and it was about $70 or less. Something is way wrong with whomever you're talking to - or maybe I've accidently opened the 80 series link or something?

I shopped my windshield in early this summer (BJ42 frame off resto).

Several thread about that talk about a very good and cheap price. I was surprised (and disappointed) to learn that prices climbed since...

I did not have the old windshield to be able to do take mesurement and cut at the shop. I did not want, particularly, have a problem with a afthermarket ''code from the book''.

I bought my OEM windshield (56111-90303) to make sure...

List: 228.30

My cost: 194.06

this is not a ''who have the better price contest ! !!''

... Montréal area.

at this time ... I only wish that the excellent reputation TOYOTA GENUINE PARTS worth that price !

That just plain sucks - does this mean I should put this glass in the pile of OEM parts too rare or good to go on a trail truck :D.
