I have two keys hidden just encase one is lost.
The first one is taped to the inside of the fuel door, other is under the hood.
Have not needed them,yet.

Genius

Looks like I'll need to leave the key to the forklift out also... or do you have ramps?

Does she carry a knife? Those zip-ties are pretty tough, I'm sure my wife would have choice words for me. Maybe she'd start carrying the Leatherman Micra I gave her years ago. I always preferred to make the key on my wife's car somewhat inconvenient, otherwise she tended to grab it when she didn't have time to hunt for her regular keys.

They are small ones...easily cut with a nail clipper which she always has.

I could probably build a house with just the stuff I could find in the bottom of her purse (unbelievable)!

I'm confident she'll be able to get the key.

I surf 2-4 days a week and need a safe place to hide a key while in the water and found this solution http://www.hitchsafe.com/ . A little pricey but not as much as a stolen vehicle or locking yourself out at 6a.m. and calling a lock smith. Not that I would know anything about the locksmith.

I've seen the hitchsafe, it looks like a good idea. If I lived in a climate where I could surf 2-4 days a week it might work well, but I wonder how the mechanism would do in the salt belt.

Nice low key location. guess the rear crossmember is a good one too, i just found a spare the PO had put there when installing the new bumper.

Nice. Both very useful. You should keep one in your console, too.

not sure if your kidding or not bur i would not suggest this at all. i moved a few years back and had a spare for my tuck in the center console, pulled into the garage went inside for about 4 hours. came back and my truck was cleaned out, power inverter, gps, camera, maglight, sub and amp, ect.. not only did they get all that but they got the spare key to my truck! they could have taken it right there and then but didnt however they knew where i lived and had a key so i had to replace all the door locks and ignition switch (thank you lexus:mad:)

Think about it this way: suppose you have three spare keys. One on the door to your gas tank. One under the hood. One in the center console. What is the purpose of a spare key that you hide? Most likely, it is to allow you to get into a locked vehicle. If your truck is locked, how do you get to these keys?

Why don't you just zip tie it to her clippers then. LOL

and the reverse could be some ass hat sees something he likes in your truck breaks in starts to do a once over of the interior of your truck low and behold theres the key and takes if for a spin, Just saying speaking from experience i would not recommend it. to each there own

Actually, I think the reverse would be to locate a key where you can get to it.

I think your e-sarcasm filter is in a hide-a-key and you forget where you put it:doh::flipoff2:

Any asshat with knowledge can get into any vehicle on the planet, or even take it. To think that you are safe in any way by locking your vehicle or relying on an alarm that isn't wired to keep the vehicle from starting is just foolish.

And as to each their own, some people get mad at a car manufacturer for the user friendly features built in, instead of taking their valuables inside.

I don't want to crawl through that back slider, for one thing. I have one on the frame, and another in an easily accessible spot. IMO, don't waste a lot of time trying to overthink something like this, auto security for most vehicles is simply about not making it a target, and not making it too easy. In fact, the same applies to home security. You just have to make your house look a little more difficult than the ones around you, and that will work 99% of the time.

IH8MUD is searchable from anywhere. Google "keys h-de landcr-iser 80".
It might be safer to not discuss where someone may or may not hide their k-ys
Old (security) habits, sorry.

Actually, this thread does remind me; I got to get a couple copies made,
in case I do lock myself out; starting to get that old timers thing.

Come on guys, geez, IH8MUD is searchable from anywhere.

If you don't believe; google it with "keys hide landcruiser 80"

I would politely suggest that this entire thread be deleted, that is, if you want to keep your landcruiser.

Old habits, sorry.

I just did that, and it's kinda scary that this thread was the first result Google brought back to me :eek:

I kinda expected that----, but still---

Best trick I have seen is putting a coat hanger wire into the yakima rack poles. There is also other crap you can stuff into them. Then you can help out others when they lock themselves out.
