Lots of people spewing opinion here, I'll try too.

Doubtlessly one can make a killer 4-link suspension that will outperform leafs.

As far as leaves, OME strongly outperform a fresh stock suspension. From everything I've
read they are the bar-none the best of the common leaf options.

Yes, they are made in Malaysia - but they're just springs. I trust that a company
such as OME (which is owned [I believe] by ARB) can ensure some Malaysians
properly make their product. And to insult the oz's, I'd rather have my springs
built by hard-working Malaysians who know they will instantly lose their job if they
mess up because there are 100's of starving people lined up outside just waiting
to take their position.

Long live the queen.

I know of 3 sets of HFS that have gone flat within a years time.
I did a lot of investigating on the most common kits (OME, HFS, SOR, MAF) and it seems like all have fans and all have people who are not happy.
Alcan seemed to be the only company who had no huge complaints but these weren't in my price range so what can you do?!
I rolled the dice, hopefully anyone who has HFS comes up a winner;)
If not, I'll drive my LC straight down to texas and beat someone with my flattened spring! (Springs are actually manufactured in Canada....I can't recall the name of the OEM)
Thanks for the heads up though....good to know.

"and it seems like all have fans and all have people who are not happy"

I've never heard an OME performance complaint.
There is much grumbling on the price, but only on those who can't afford them.

Alcan Springs were the cheapest option out of OME, MAF, HFS I was looking into. They do not supply the shocks, and I'd probably replaced them anyway (except OME), so I bought Bilsteins for my Cruiser.

Look harder, there's a few anti-Alcan threads here and there too.

Sent from my iPad using IH8MUD

I just got done installing a 4" HFS lift on my 76 fj40 with a 1.5" shackle... I noticed my tie rod is touching the shock...? Did you run into this problem, or has anyone else?

I noticed this after i installed some rancho shocks, mines about 1/4" inch away but if my passenger tire goes too high it touches. im not sure what to do about it either...

im thinking getting the f350 shock mount towers will solve the problem though. that or power steering....:D

In my case the extra cost ended up being shipping.
Since Alcan sells springs only and not an entire kit, by the time I sourced shocks, shackles, pins, bushings etc and had them shipped from a different supplier(s) on top of the springs from alcan then it go very costly. If everything is shipped in one nice package it seems to cost a fair chunk less......just my case.
Obviouslly this will depend on where you're shipping to.
Now that being said, I ended up having to source some parts from SOR ontop of the CCOT stuff due to shipping damage and how long that took to get sorted out...so yes in the end I may have been better to source odds and ends from SOR (for example) and springs from Alcan. But how was I to know when I first placed the order:meh:?

So there you have it, even Alcan has people upset with them.

As for OME, I did find very few people complaining about them but in my case I decided I wanted to go 4" and OME dos not provide this option......

You have a point. I wasn't counting the shackles and hardware in as I have them already.

You are not the first person asking about 4" OME.
So far they replied to me saying that there are number of requests, but not that many to start production in big scale, plus internal Australian and some other countries by-laws are not allowed over 3" lift kits. For small companies it may be Ok as they can dedicate their product for off the road use, but for big like ARB it can be an issue.
I kind of can see the point in their response.

I bought the cheapest kit I could find shipped to my door. It gave me a nice lift, my shackle angles are fine. (rough country)

I can spend the extra 700 on something else.

To me, that's the Best lift. In the last 6 months I have seen plenty of threads on the very expensive HFS Alcan and OME springs all having their issues. I haven't seen anything like this out of the set I bought.

If I had the extra 250 to blow I coul have gone hell creek. In case you search for them, know that I first got a pair of hell creek second hand never installed springs. It turns out they were the short version. Tom at hell creek warned me of this and I measured. They now produce a longer spring and have thrown away the blueprints for the shorter springs that were once produced. You won't find any negative issues with Hell creek other than these old length issues that have been corrected( replacements were warrantied)

Also, Hell creeks factory makes the rough country springs and each kit utilizes the identical shocks ( rc vs hC)

I have other things to buy for my resto and just new tire clearance. My scat price seats are softer than stock and my 29 year old back has been in enough vettes, lowered mustangs, and 350zs to not thing the 40 is too rough at all.

If someone can post a legitimate OME issue I would be surprised.

ih8mud + "OME" + issue + problem only returns 6 pages. The problems I could find were a jeep wandering, tire rubbing, and too high in the rear.

As I mentioned earlier, my only issue is they don't make a 4" lift.
I totally understand the reason behind this but I wanted to go 4".
I also hear the dakar springs don't have a military wrap, but that's just a matter of intended use and not a real issue....IMO anyhow.
I didn't do any real investigation on the mil wrap though so don't quote me, no 4" option was my deciding factor.
Otherwise I would have likely went with them since, as you've pointed out, there doesn't seem to be a huge list of concerns.

I am looking for a 4" kit myself and would LOVE to see a few photo's, final installation, of the mfg's kits that you are discussing. :bang:
