Since 78 FJ40 and 1984 Toyota SR5 4x4 both came new with Yuasa batteries I wouldn't be surprised if Toyota's batteries were made by them. Come to think of it. My '81 GS1000, '86 Ninja also came with Yuasa batteries

My 80 came with a Panasonic battery. In 1997. I want to say I got 7 years out of it with no special care. But that is 20 years ago! I had a Honda motorcycle that came with a Yuasa. Also a good battery.

All batteries die because of sulfation. And sulfation occurs because the batteries are at less than 12.8 volts or so. A tender will keep batteries around 13.5 volts and at that, they can live a very long time, even cheap ones.

BattertMinder Model 2012

I have it hooked up to charge all of my trucks at once. It does an amazing job. If it ever dies, I'm getting the 8 amp output version.
Wow. Seems pricey. It costs more than the battery I am trying to protect!

Only seems expensive, until you realize you didn't have to buy so many replacement batteries. That minder, minds 8 batteries for me, and conservatively, doubles their life. So do the math.

I have that Battery Minder too. Works great. I also use a small Battery Tender (diff brand) to keep things topped up. Any of those 'smart' charge controllers will work, but the ones with a de-sulfate cycle work best for battery longevity.

Any updates on current best FJ60 battery?

My 6 year old Diehard AGM is finally crapping out on me.

I've had the best luck with the X2 AGM batteries from Batteries Plus for my LC/camping vehicle. The rest of my cars/trucks have Interstate, but they're pretty consistently dropping dead right after the 36 month warranty period is up. The heat here in Phoenix is pretty hard on batteries.

What happened to OPTIMA? They used to be the durable go to battery. I'm not too sure AGM is necessary cost for
regular day to day. I use lead acid Interstate Series 31 X2 in my 60, but I have a fridge going occasionally.
I get 6-7 yrs easily out of my Interstates. Optima were supposed to be designed to withstand the heat of living
where you are. Or have they fallen out of flavour for some reason?

Costco Interstate. I don't think the entire Interstate lineup uses virgin lead now, only the top line. Optima was bought out and quality has reportedly declined greatly. I have a 20 year old blue optima in one of my trucks that's still fine according to the digital battery tester. I'll probably buy another just to see how that goes...

Odyssey is still the top rated but $$$. They were the old sears Die Hard.

Just snagged an interstate from cosco for $119. Hell of a deal
Which battery did you get? Series 27 or 24?

I was at Costco today and they said they would have to special order one.

Went with the series 27 and it was perfect fit. For some reason, the one in mine was a 34 and had some spacer below the battery. So once I figured out that spacer and removed it, this one fit like a glove and it fired right up.

Thank you. That may be the way I go as well.
