best base coat clear coat? (1 Viewer)

I'm doing a restoration on a BJ45.
Blasted to the bare metal frame off .

I'm curious to know what you guys think of what brand paint I should use.
I normally use glasurit but they are gouging me here.
Sikkens is my 2nd choice.
Any suggestions.
I want this job to last.
It's going to be in a coastal climate with salt and rain.

All I can suggest is use the best quality two part epoxy/etching primer you can get. The paint itself
isn't so important as also using the highest quality clear coat, 3 coats minimum.
2 part epoxy has the best sealing qualities to keep moisture from the bare metal.
As usual, the preparation is critical. Costa Rica would be humid, so the second you use any kind of
filler it will absorb moisture and will need to be primed over immediately.
Makes me paranoid just thinking of painting in a tropical environment.

I guess painting in Florida or Houston TX is comparable humid wise lol.
I don't use much bondo for the reason you mentioned. Plus they are old work wagons.
They have defects. I don't hide them under that crap.
Glasurit is a $1000 bill for the products.
I painted my 40 with it and it's like new after 6-7 years.

You can’t go wrong with the PPG Deltron line or DuPont Chromabase

There's nothing like Glasurit in my opinion. Wanda is my second choice.

I use Valspar in my shop. If youre doing a full frame off, make sure you use a good epoxy primer or poly primer on the bare metal after the sandblast. You can do the lowrider/showcar trick of having them shoot it with 2 good coats of high solids clear, let it cure for a few weeks, 600 wetsand, 3 more coats of clear. House of Kolor clear is also really decent alonf with Southern Polyurethanes, PPG, Lesanol, Debeers, AXALTA. As long as it's a high solids and it's applied correctly, brand is mostly personal preference.
