Supprised no one mentioned Cooper's. My whole family runs them. I like the St Maxx they last a long time and aren't as loud as you would think. Very good in water and snow, not that you get snow in Florida. I have them in 255/85

Would have, but the thread went to s*** immediately so I didn't bother. It will be a long time before I buy another BFG- the A/T's wore like iron, but didn't stay round very long. Mud T/A's seem to blow sidewalls way too frequently, like GY's. Coopers have treated me well on my 80 and my wife's Pilot.

Toyo's and Nitto's have a good rep around here as well.

What vehicle are you driving? Stock gears? I would love to try a 315/75 just not sure if stock gearing will suffer too much when I tow. All flat towing and only about 2000 pounds.
Tom
Overweight 1997, stock gears, towed about 2000 and it's not bad but already slow and makes it slower!

Don’t give it another thought.

I have Firestone Destination AT's for road and sand mostly and love 'em.

However the current #1 tire on TireRack's owners survey in the AT category is the Continental Terrain Contact AT.
That's how I picked my Firestones four years ago and things turned out great.

Don’t give it another thought.

HI Joey,

How are these in the snow? I have the K02s and they have been pretty great. Need to replace tires soon and was wondering what other options are out there. At work we have 4 land cruisers/tundras with K02s. No one has ever had a flat driving fire roads all day

No problem in snow at all. Ice...well, all tires suck in ice :P

I have had a few sets of bfgoodrich both ko and km tyres, now have Nitto trail graps and I definitely won’t be buy bfgs again.

Cooper ST Maxx
BFG KO2
Toyo OpenCountry AT2 and AT2 Extreme
Toyo OpenCountry RT
Goodyear Duratrac

I know this is your second set so you obviously like them, how long did your first set last? I'm currently running ST Maxx's which I like quite a bit, but the grass is always greener..

Last set was 66k but I could have kept going. Since I was headed to Overland Expo I used it as an excuse to grab a new set for the long drive. :P

Didn't have any problems with Duratracs but an now running Toyo M55's. M55's are pricey and were hard to find so don't really recommend them unless you want cookie cutter look. Once these wear down I will look at the other more common Toyo offerings.

The ko2 have no issues. I have 42K on 37’s, rotated all of three times, never rebalanced, drive and ride like they are new.

The problem with them, which maybe is a benefit to the OP, is they run small at least in bigger sizes.

This is compared to the Cooper AT3, mounted on the same rim. I have the rear axle jacked up to where the tire just releases traction so it is unloaded. Even if you give the ko2 1/4” back for wear, it’s still almost 3/4” difference.

I abhorred the ko, but the only ding I can give the ko2 is size and the forward traction can overpower the lateral in slush if you stay on the throttle. It’s otherwise been the best tire I have ever run.

The Falken AT3W is probably the best value on the market. I run 34’s on my Sequoia (285/75/17) and the tires are true to size with 20/32nd tread depth in bigger LT sizes.

No tread squirm, quiet, they just eat slush under throttle (indicative of rain performance), and at 33K miles they still have a ton of tread. I paid $194/tire. Would buy again and again.

I run the BFG KO2 on my 94 LC and love them. I went with them after getting feedback from a friend that have had them (5 sets). Mine are 315/75/16 and I have rubbed a few times at stock height but the sagging suspension is the likely issue. As far as road noise, minimal to none.

Pro Comp A/T, great tire for half the price of the KO2, best option in my opinion. Heavy weight rated as well.

I ran the Cooper Discoverer STT on my 02 Xterra and was pleased with them.

One thing I have to say about my cooper St Maxx tires is the crazy amount of weight they took to balance them, which I have a feeling is from my beat stock rims but it's worth mentioning

10% of your miles are offroad? That’s incredible. If you drove 5,000 miles a year that would be 500 offroad miles.

I’d recommend Super Swampers. Probably Boggers.

Good one man, we all exaggerate how much we hit the “dirt” in our rigs. Web wheelers most of us are...
