Well a couple months ago I thought I had walked away relatively unscathed after pulling off a Monster Jam type wheelie... well, I was wrong. Replaced the shocks and oil pan, then noticed my DS tire was a little bit like a GT race car. Figured the trunion or wheel bearings were shot. So I called @Akella got all the bearings and seals to give the axle a tune up. I think I've got bigger problems...

80 series Bent axle housing:

I had the same problem getting a shaft out on a front end crashed 80. Axle didn't look bent but it was.

Rod, If you have some means of getting a bare housing from here to there on the cheap I would be willing to give you one of my spares, you would need to polish the knuckle balls. But if you can figure out how to get it, it's yours brother.

There is a threaded hole in the end of the axle, get a slide hammer and make an attachment to thread a bolt in the hole in the end of the axle and start pounding...

It's pointless me trying to salvage the housing. I'm just gonna cut the balls off, keep the shafts and outers... sell the third and move on with life. It's bound the bend again with the 40's and the abuse

I was able to break the birfield free by using a pry bar and 5lb sledge. Of course I was at a junkyard so I didn't care if I broke it.

I am with you on the 9.5" front, was going to attempt to build one from my spare rear housing and a spare front.

this is how I bent mine.

found out the same way you did, wouldn't come out. I found a locked axle housing and swapped it out and everything is good now.

Wow, reminds me of the fun & joy of a company car
(dealer question @ 40k inspection: do you possibly, maybe, drive this car hard mister?)
